Has anyone used Mirena for Birth Control?

I am a FTM and am considering my options for Birth Control. I am really considering Mirena an was wondering if anyone else has it and your experience with it. I plan to continue to breastfeed and supplement with formula for a while and I really like that Mirena is the only form of birth control that will allow me to still breastfeed.  My nurse told me that you cannot breastfeed while on the pill or with the Depo Shot.

I had Mirena placed a few weeks ago.  I really like it, the placement was easy, its obviously easy to use, and effective.  The only downside is that I cramped for several days and then my period started and is still going after 2 weeks. I EBF so I was looking forward to being period free for about a year, but its a fair trade off for such easy BC and no *oopsy* pregnancy ;) I'm hoping after a year of using the Mirena I won't have a menstrual cycle at all, which many women don't!  HTH

You can also breastfeed while taking a low dose progestin only pill, like the mini pill. The difference is that it's 95 percent effective, so slightly lower than other pills or the ring or any of those options.

I had mirena put in last week. The placement was pretty easy, just a little pinch and slight cramping afterwards. I've been experiencing spotting ever since, which the dr said could go on for 3 months tops...wow. But, it's one less thing to think about and as soon as we decide we want to try for another one, you can start trying right away, as opposed to the pill where it can take months to ovulate again.

I had Mirena for 3 years before we started trying to get pregnant.  I had it reinserted 6 weeks after I had the baby.  I love the Mirena.  I never had any side effects with it, and it worked much better for me than BC pills which always caused me to have terrible PMS mood swings and migraines.
