so im nervous. first time mom here. we always had a feeling that we were having a girl and we went and found out that we were right and are awaiting a little girl. however, my SO and i both have a bit of a worry that what we were told was wrong and that ill end up delivering a baby boy. has this happened to any of you out there?

It can happen! :P

I've pondered how I would react if that happened. *shrug* I think I'd be upset at first, but it'd just end up being a good joke later on.

Don't stress about it. It can happen, but if you were told you're having a girl and the tech/doctor seemed sure, then you're probably having a girl. :)

You can always get another ultra sound. Got my 18 week one to check on the baby and such. Then I did a 3D/4D one at 29 weeks. I had them double check. Just so I could be for certain. But its nothing to stress about. As long as the baby is healthy, just dont take tags off of anything.

I had a dream last night when I delivered Eloise was actually a boy! The 2 ultrasounds I've had [21 & 23 weeks] both showed a girl though so I think we're safe.

I think I brought on the dream because yesterday someone on the boards was asking about washing clothes and another poster was worried about if they delivered the wrong sex. I wrote that I'd washed all my clothes for her already so if she comes out a boy he'll be wearing lots of pink!

We were team green with LO#1 and LO#2. This time we found out we are having a girl... I've shopped a lot and saved receipts... part of me feels like because we found out, the baby is going to come out the opposite sex just to mess with us, lol. Honestly, it doesn't really matter, and worrying won't change it. If the baby comes out a different sex than expected you get to return some items and re-shop, it doesn't change anything drastically.

Ask your doctor or u/s tech what % of accuracy they'd give you on the gender. If they tell you, "100%," then you KNOW you're not going to be one of those parents that expects a girl and gets a boy. However, sometimes they're not 100% with girls, and they might tell you they're not 100% certain. I would ask how certain they are before I worried or before I bought a bunch of hair bows.

I had the same worry after my a/s.  I don't think I'd be disappointed in delivering the other sex, just what would I do with all those girly clothes and the fact that the room is lavender.  However, I ended having to have another u/s at 29 weeks, and they confirmed the sex for me, so I'm pretty confident now.

I do agree with the previous posters that this is not something to worry about.  You're going to love your baby no matter what sex they are.

OMG yesss!

That happened to my boyfriends cousin. They were told they were having a girl then she delivered a boy!

It sucked because they had the prettiest pink nursery set up and now they have to exchange a lot of stuff for boy things.. :(

But he's gorgeous tho :))

My daughter was supposed to be a boy.  The doctor wasn't 100% sure though and didn't show us the money shot.  I was positive she was a girl.  We had to do some shopping after she was born, but it was no big deal.  I'm actually kind of afraid of it happening this time, even though I've seen the money shot clearly twice.

This.

Unless you are going completely pink crazy you should be fine.  I am so glad that we were team green with our first and also got all of our major gear and things all in gender neutral colors so if and when we decided to have another child we could reuse those items and not be stuck or have to replace them if we had a different sex the next time.

So glad that all I have to worry about if this one ends up being a boy is some boy clothes, and not even that for the first 2-3 months since we have so much neutral clothes.

This is a big reason why we are Team Green. I know it hardly ever happens but ultrasounds are not an exact science and people make mistakes. The surprise is soo completely worth waiting for too.  I'm a total planner, but all newborns need the same things and nursery color does not even matter. By the time they become toddlers they're usually getting a new bed and their room redone anyway so then you can go all-out boy or girl themed if you want.  Birth is the only 100% way to know the sex of the baby.
