Another one- Roscoe

We have the name Roscoe on our long list. H really loves this name, I like it quite a bit. It fits our old man name style. I have a really good association with it, as it is my oncologist's first name, and he's such sweet old guy.

On my giant name poll (http://blindyswife.surveydaddy.com/s/blindy-s-name-list) it has gotten terrible reviews. It is the most hated name on the list. My feelings aren't hurt, I promise. ;) I know my style isn't for everyone, and that's okay. (I literally lol'd at one of the comments on the poll: "This is the worst name list I've seen" haha)

I am curious to get some specific feedback on Roscoe, and what you don't like about the name. (or DO like, if that's the case.) Again, you won't hurt my feelings, so be honest.

(Oh, and whichever one of you suggested Nevaeh in my comments section... you were joking, right?) :-D

I'm getting so big!

I just want to give you a world as beautiful as you are to me.

Hmmm I guess I've never even thought about that name. There's nothing wrong with it but I don't know how I feel yet. It could grow on me.

Eh. I had a dog named Roscoe. I like it better for a dog/pet, honestly.

If you love it, then go for it.

It just seems more of a nickname or pet name (animal, not like "honey") to me.

SIL's dog is Roscoe. And Roscoe P Coltrain, sheriff on the Dukes of Hazard. Every time I hear Roscoe, in my head I'm saying it how he said it on the show. It's a no go for me.

First thing that pops into my mind is a Rottweiler, lol not too be mean it's literally just the first thing I thought of when I saw the post title!

It could grow on me though, it's definitely one I haven't heard before on a child! It's kind of cool in retrospect.

I'll echo PPs in saying that the first thing that comes to mind is a dog. I know a few pups with the name, but no humans!

I actually really like it.

I'm a Tulip in a cup, I stand no chance of growing up.

Burt Farlander: Do you promise to let our daughter be fat or skinny or any weight at all? Because we want her to be happy, no matter what. Being obsessed with weight is just too cliché for our daughter.
Verona De Tessant: Yes, I do. Do you promise, when she talks, you'll listen? Like, really listen, especially when she's scared? And that her fights will be your fights?
Burt Farlander: I do. And do you promise that if I die some embarrassing and boring death that you're gonna tell our daughter that her father was killed by Russian soldiers in this intense hand-to-hand combat in an attempt to save the lives of 850 Chechnyan orphans?
Verona De Tessant: I do. Chechnyan orphans. I do. I do.

I don't like it because it makes me think of The Dukes of Hazzard and then I hear that dumb George Bush style laugh. Sorry. I'm old though, kids his age probably won't relate.

Upon hearing the name, my first thought is that of a beagle. If forced to imagine a person witht he name, I immediately imagine a haychewing, yeehaw screaming, overall clad, Hazard kin.

I think Roscoe is a bit more out there than most people would like.

Knee jerk reaction? Oh my god, no.

But then I read your post and forced myself to think a bit more about it.  It's a legit name, spelled correctly, has meaning to you, and reminds me of Roscoe Parrish (football player).  I wouldn't put it on my child, but I certainly don't think it's a bad name!

I personally wouldn't use it but my grandfather's friends name is Roscoe and he is such a sweet old man! I also think its the dobermans name in the Disney movie Oliver lol, so it could go either way.

My first reaction to Roscoe was that I really don't like it. My mind went straight to a dog. But then I read your OP and I think it would work for you guys. It's not a name that I would pick, but it seems like it fits your style and you guys could pull it off.

I just did your survey and saw that alot of your names are from characters in books or movies (not sure if you did this on purpose or not)

Roscoe is the name of our house rabbit.  I DID hear the name for the first time when dropping my little cousin off at pre-school and the little boy whom the name belonged to was absolutely adorable.

Unfortunately, when I hear Roscoe, I think of our bunny.

Nope, that's just coincidental.

On a related note: one of the reasons my H won't get on board with Oscar is because he thinks it might be too much to have two cartoon/kid/character type names in a row. I don't agree with him in this instance, though.

When I hear the name, I think of Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles (the restaurant). I suppose this would be because of where I live (California).

Edited to add: BTW, I like Oscar. I think Oscar and Linus would make a nice sibset.

To me it seems like a dog name. A good dog name. but still a dog name. I guess he could go by Ross, but that would make me think of Friends.

I don't think it's terrible, it's just not my style. It is, however, a legit, correctly spelled name so if you love it, go for it.

Like a lot of the PPs, my first reaction was "dog," and that I didn't like it.  But in the time it took to read through the posts I don't think it's that bad after all.  NMS, but not too bad.
