Slept well in Nap Nanny...what to do now?

Grace was born at 36w6d, so I'm cutting her a little slack.  Once she's really
"out" at night, she can sleep for 2.5-3 hours at a time.  Sometimes, it takes 2 "attempts" to get her to sleep after a feeding, though.  Yesterday evening (6:00-ish) she just cried and cried if she wasn't being fed.  Finally, I figured I was out of milk and gave her 1 oz of formula.  After a bath (she hates) and screaming for an hour, you'd figure she'd tire herself out.  We do swaddle since her arms go all over, but it took her 4 attempts and 45 minutes to go down.  Finally, I got the Nap Nanny (she naps well in it).  She's been out for almost 5 hours.  What's the deal?  I'd really like for her to sleep in her crib:(  We had a wedge in the crib, but had to take it out as she rolled off it all the time and DH was afraid of her rolling into the crib corner.

March 2011: Off Nuva, cycle back to "normal" for me: No periods since 15 years old. June 2011:Provera&50 mg Clomid; Progesterone:0.7 July 2011:Provera&100mg Clomid; Progesterone:3.29 Met with RE:No Clomid response, begin injectables Sep 5 mg Letrozole and Ovidrel in the interim month. Cut out running (was a distance-runner), cycling, eliptical. Restricted to weight-training, walking, pilates. Brain MRI normal. Being physically over-stressed is the reason the body stopped producing prog. Late Sep 2011: Menopur, Ovidrel,& IUI (10.10.11):BFN-Great injectable response: 2 mature, 6 near mature, many smaller; Problem: 9 cysts! Dr: IUI too uncontrolled for number of viable eggs & age. On to IVF! IVF ER 12.6: 37 mature eggs, 27 fertilized, froze all to avoid overstimulation; FET 1.22 (2 Grade 1)=BFN; FET 2.22 (3 Grade 2)=BFP! 1. You are never "out" of milk. Your body is always making more. I would not give formula. She was probably just cluster feeding, which is really normal.

2. Why didn't you just put her to bed at 6? Sounds like she was ready. It is normal for newborns/infants to have early bed times.

3. Is the nap nanny safe for sleeping? I don't have one and don't know what the company says. I would not worry about a newborn sleeping in her crib. It's not a big deal. Imagine what it's like for her - she's so tiny, used to be warm and cuddled and cozy - the crib is big, flat and not cozy. My daughter slept swaddled in her swing or bouncy seat for most of her 9 months and sleeps fine in a crib now. I didn't like crib wedges myself.

in response to #3 it would appear the company is no longer I business; there was a massive recall after an infant death in 2010. I wouldn't use one!

That's a shame, actually, because like the Bumbo recall, it was mostly due to user error/not following instructions.  Nap nannies are not to be used in the crib, ESPECIALLY not with bumpers, but that's what people were doing.

ditto. DD2 sleeps in one  on the floor because of her reflux/congestion and we love it.

Our DD #2 slept in one on the floor up until around 4.5 months...she slept great in it and I believe the company is still in business...the recall was a while back and they are fine now.  I say let LO sleep in the nap nanny if it means they will sleep:)

Do you know if she has reflux? I know premmies can sometimes have reflux and if she seems really comfy sitting up sleeping it might be reflux.  Also, if babies are in pain (reflux, tummy ache) they may want to nurse because this is the only thing that comforts them. Your LO might just be using you as a paci (As mine does all the time) and may not actually be hungry!  Do you usually bathe her after a feeding? If it is reflux (which it could very well not be, just a suggestion) laying her down in the bath soon after a feeding can contribute to reflux.

Many babies prefer to sleep at an incline, so lots of people report success with Nap Nannies, swings, RNPs, and bouncers.  My LO sleeps in her Nap Nanny almost exclusively.

Regarding the recall, it was because someone had the Nap Nanny in the crib and the kid rolled out and got stuck and ultimately suffocated.  That isn't the Nap Nanny's fault - that is user error. It is sad and tragic, but you have to make sure to use products according to the manufacturer's instructions.
