Gas Pain/Formula Intolerance?

I am sure this has been talked about before and I have asked about formula before but crazy FTM here would like more opinions/advice :)

I started LO on formula last week because we may have to start thickened feeds due to a swallow study. He is having issues choking on feeds :( Anyway the pedi suggested starting with Similac. Ever since he has been in a lot of pain *or seems very distressed and cries out* whenever he needs to pass gas/have a bowel movement. He is definitely NOT constipated his poops are now almost explosive and he goes any time there is a bottle in his mouth. He cries out in his sleep all night and grunts and strains.

Long story short... do I stick with the formula longer to see if he adjusts? Do I switch? I have heard not so great things about Similac Sensitive, and great things about Gerber Gentle/Soothe. Any thoughts or advice on what has worked for you all? I know everyone is different but any opinions would be appreciated. It breaks my heart to see him like this if I am causing it.

One of my twins was having those same symptoms on Similac Sensitive. He was grunting, arching a lot, crying out and seeming to be in a lot of pain when trying to pass gas. We switched in Gerber Soothe almost 2 weeks ago. We had a couple bottles (we had the pre made kind) of the Similac left, so these past 2 weeks I've been mixing the Similac Sensitive and Gerber Soothe together. Just started yesterday on 100% Gerber Soothe. I have definitely seen an improvement this past week and hope to see even more of one now that there is no Similac in their formula. I would definitely recommend the Gerber Soothe if your LO is having gas issues!!! Good Luck.

We're having formula troubles here too.  My LO has been on a mix of Similac Advance and breast milk since about 4 weeks (she's not 12 weeks).  About a week and a half ago, she started crying and screaming at bed time with a stomach ache, which is very out of the ordinary for her.  Then came the exorcist style projectile spit up, too.

Her doc suggested Gerber Gentle bc she might be sensitive to milk proteins.  We thought that was the new perfect fit, but on day 3 she got the worst gas ever and was in so much pain while passing gas.  We traded one problem for another.  Doc now suggests Similac Sensitive.  We're trying that and she's better today, but I know we need to give it a few days or weeks to see if it'll really be better.  Otherwise, they said soy could be next.

It's a trial and error process and every baby is different!  You just have to keep investigating and talking to your doctor until you find what works for your LO - that's what I'm telling myself, at least.  Good luck!
