Acupuncture

Heyo!

I have my first ever acupuncture appt shortly. Can you tell me what you wear during treatments? Do you strip down? Can you leave your socks on? Random, I know but my feet are a mess and I don't feel like addressing them before my appt. Big Smile

You don't have to take your clothes off. But wear loose fitting pants or skirt. The accupuncturist will probably put needles on your knees, ankles, near your belly button, and arms and head. I usually take socks off - can't remember if there are needles in my feet.

I hope it goes well!

No reason to be nervous! I find it to be VERY relaxing. My acupuncturist always puts needles in my feet. You can leave your socks on and let them tell you if they want you to take them off. I always make sure to wear separates (no dresses or jumpsuits...how I love my Dickies though lol) so they have access to my belly.

ETA: I also wanted to add that most times I don't feel the needles go in at all. Sometimes there is a little pinch but it goes away and doesn't really hurt.

I usually take off my socks and pants. I wouldn't worry about them seeing your feet - they've seen it all!

Its seriously the most relaxing thing ever. I am a total baby when it comes to pain and I don't think it hurts at all!

Usually they put needles in my stomach area, so I just pull my undies down a little bit to give them access and then they put a sheet over the area. They also put needles in my thighs, so it doesn't cover up much.

No need to be nervous!  I hate needles, yet I love going to acupuncture!  As the other girls have said, be sure to wear pants that can go over your knees, or a skirt.  When I forget, I just take my pants off and she covers me with a warmed blanket.  Sometimes I purposely "forget" about the pants thing because the blanket is SO comfortable!

Before treatment, my acupuncturist wipes the areas she's going to work on with alcohol.  Then she begins with the needles.  If I don't feel it go in, she removes it, reassess where it should go, and then re-sticks.  She said that you should feel a faint response, similar to when a doc tests your reflexes.  It's very faint and quick, but I def can feel it! After the initial response, I don't feel a thing.

After all the needles are in, she turns off the lights and I lay there for about 30 minutes.  It's quite relaxing!  And if s/he wants to put a needle between your eyebrows, as weird as it sounds, go for it!  It's for the "third eye" and "6th chakra"...my favorite point!  (helps to alleviate stress, anxiety, insomnia, sinus problems to name a few)

Enjoy, and good luck!

Don't be nervous!  Acupuncture is amazing!!!  I usually semi-undress (leaving undies on) because it's more comfortable and also because sometimes needles are inserted into my back or legs.  I hope you enjoy it!  :)

I had to remove my pants and socks but there is always a sheet covering my naughty bits. I found it relaxing and had a few good naps while I was there. At my ER I had the more eggs retrieved than in previous cycles. Granted I do have a different RE but I think it helped me.

I love my acupunturist. She is like an old friend. She works with many clinics and came to my transfer.

Wow, everyone's experiences are so varied!!

I have never taken my pants off for acupuncture.  I do always take my socks off and if she's doing needles in my back, sometimes I take my shirt off.

As PP said, don't worry - they've seen it all :-)  Enjoy!

I just had my second acupunture appointment today. I also wasn't too sure about it but the needles are really small. If one does not feel good just let him/her know and maybe it can come out.

My question for people is about the nutrition and supplement advice and how closely people follow it. Mine suggested cutting out wheat, dairy, and sugar and adding a ton of supplements, wheat grass juice, and kale/spinach green drinks daily. I mean I am for trying alternative treaments but it seems like a lot and I do enjoy eating! Did other people follow through on everything? thanks!
