No, I would not go. I wouldn't have the time nor the money. As one PP asked, are most of the guests located where the shower is being held? If not, then the MOH should expect not only some of the BMs not to show but also some of the guests. That is a lot to ask a guest to pay for: a gift, travel expenses, food for before and possibly after the shower, and a possible hotel stay.
Although, I don't understand why the shower date has to be the weekend of Christmas. A lot of people already have prior plans on that date. Some families end up celebrating Christmas the weekend of while other people may have other holiday events going on that week. Not to mention, the guests are already strapped for cash during this time and then to add a shower on top of it. Why can't this shower be a week or two weeks later?
While I wouldn't side-eye the bride on this, I would definitely side-eye the MOH for her poor planning.
