Baby Items You Love and Hate

I'm expecting in February and looking for some help on items that moms loved the first couple of months and didn't really care for. What are some baby items you love and hate during the first 3 months of babies life??

Love- white noise machine (we have the Homedics one with projector. Worth a gazillion dollars), swaddle sacks because he loves to be swaddled and I suck at swaddling at 4 am, the pacifier (we use soothies), and cloth diapers but that is a personal preference thing.

I don't really hate anything, although there are things that he hasn't used yet.

I love the Rock and Play, the swing (we have the My Little Lamb one) and Baby K'Tan wrap. I also really like the Snap N Go stroller. It's really easy to fold and unfold.

I absoloutely LOVE my floor bouncer seat. I can move it all over the house, (bathroom when I shower, kitchen table while I'm cooking) it's easy to bounce with my foot or mine also has a vibrations switch. Baby girl loves it, plus it has the toys on the bar across the top, they are Velcro so I can lower them and even though she is only a month old she can grab onto them and hit them when she's moving, she amazes herself and makes crazy faces with it. Lol.

like OP we LOVE our A+A swaddles plus their sleep sacks because we live in FL and it doesn't get super cold at night but this still keeps him covered but not hot.  Also, I swear I couldn't live without our Boppy! It makes BF SO easy because you can be hands free.  LO takes AMAZING long naps in his swing with a white noise machine everyday.  White noise has made napping a breeze anywhere we are especially if you have an app on your phone! He sleeps anywhere.  Also, sleepers with zippers are WAY better compared to snaps.  We love cloth diapers also.  In the early days he had mittens on 24/7 which saved his eyes and little faced from being scratched to pieces!  The bouncer is also another must have.  I could obviously go on for days :)  Ohhh and J&J Bed Time wash and lotion.  We use it every night and it seems to really calm him down. There isn't much we hate, except disposables which we had to use until his circ healed, but that is a personal choice.  Good luck and congrats!

For DS1: the swing was a life saver, nuk latex paci's wouldn't take silicone of any kind, the fisher price seahorse we got 3 to have backups and now he sleeps with all of them, triple paste for the watery poop in the begining a must! Without it his hiney wwas firey red.

DS2: stil trying to figure him out... Right now as long as he has a clean diaper and a boob nothing else matters. He doesn't love the paci or the swing for that matter like his big bro. But the triple paste is again a must here.

Also use the bouncy seat for showering/cooking.

LO sleeps like an angel in his Halo sleep sack. We have the one that also swaddles. The Rock and Play has been a life saver in this house. We move it all around the house depending on where we are. He also loves the Soothie paci.

Penaten is the only thing we tried that worked on bad diaper rash. And we tried everything

Miracle blanket for swaddling. At first I tried it and must have been super sleep deprived cause I couldn't figure it out but we tried again a couple weeks ago and it's awesome. No roaming hands like with sleep sack or swaddleme.

Love: Halo sleep sacks with swaddle "wings", Rock-n-play, Nuk Pacis, Moby wrap (after 4 weeks), Summer Right Height Bathtub, Carter's sleep and play outfits, Lansinoh Soothies (for breastfeeding), nursing tanks, My Brest Friend Nursing pillow (first 2 months), Carters receiving blankets, Playtex Drop-ins Nursers

Hate: Avent bottles, soothies paci, Moby Wrap (before 4 weeks), wipes warmer, Huggies diapers, any outifts that have separate pants and tops, newborn clothes (he only wore them for 10 days)

Love: Rock N Play (except that I think it has contributed to giving LO a flat head--still, it is AMAZING for babies with reflux); Fisher Price Snug A Bunny Swing; white noise machine; onesies with hand covers; playtex venti-air bottles; Luv's diapers (They will hold anything in!); simithicone drops (a must have for a gassy baby)

Hate: the onesies that are "dresses" (they bunch up around LO's waist); my Breast Pump that I paid over $300 for and used all of about 3 times and could not return.  It was a piece of crap compared to the professional one.  My advice - rent a professional grade one from the hospital if you decide to pump.

Things we bought but don't or rarely use: pack-n-play (still in the box - the rock-in-play takes its place at this early stage); co-sleeper (little one was too noisy to sleep in the bed with us); bouncer (little one prefers the swing)

Love:
-Fisher Price RNP
-Triple Paste for diaper rash
-Skip-Hop Pronto changing kit
-MAM night pacifiers (they glow in the dark which is awesome at 3 AM when I'm searching for it in the co-sleeper/RNP)
-Carter's sleep-and-play outfits
-Snuza Halo/Hero
-Aden & Anais swaddle blankets (not the Target ones, though; we bought a pack of Target ones and were gifted the original A&A ones, and the Target ones suck in comparison)
-Motorola MBP36 video/sound baby monitor

Hate:
-Petunia Pickle Bottom boxy backpack (loaaaathe, wish I'd never bought it)
-Huggies wipes
-Boppy pillow
-Avent bottles
-Changing pad in nursery (useless for us)
-Moby Wrap

Love: swing (Mamaroo), a good playmat/tummy time mat (we got our from Ikea), gas drops, and our bouncer. We also love our A+A blankets and sleep sacks.

Didn't care for: disposable diapers and wipes (personal preference), Swaddleme sleep sacks-she acted like she was being tortured in those things, a crib soother-we have the aquarium and it does not soothe her...she lays there laughing at it while its on, I have bit of a goofy girl though  :o)

Love RnP, boon grass drying rack, Medela PISA.  Also love motion activated plug in lights for every hall and room I travel between when I am up taking care of LO at night.

I love-my Ameda Purely Yours pump, Snappies breastmilk storage containers, NUK breastmilk storage bags, Avent and Tommee Tippee bottles, Target Up & Up formula, diapers and wipes, BumGenius bottom cleaner (works really well for sticky poops), the Boppy, Snugga-Bunny bouncer, Gilligan & O'Malley nursing tanks, Aden & Anais swaddle blankets, Tommee Tippee bibs-they have a thick roll that fits well around baby's neck so nothing dribbles down, CJ's Butter lotion in Lullaby, Kiddopotamus swaddles, Soothie and Gumdrop pacifiers

Wow, I use all of this stuff on a daily basis.  Babies need a lot of stuff!

I LOVE our rock and play. One of the mommies in my breast feeding support group recommended it and it's awesome. Abby hates sleeping flat and she sleeps like a dream in it. My mom even got one for her house.

And we love the soothies pacifiers.

Love: My swing!! Invest in a good one. Hospital grade pump that I am renting. Pampers diapers with the line on them that tell you when its wet/dirty. Pampers sensitive wipes...I sound like a rep from Pamper, I assure you I am not. Any type of baby wrap carrier. I have a ring sling.

Hate: I think it was said before. The bag onsies that don't have separate legs. It would bunch up on my LO.  That's about it.

LOVE:  Aden & Anais swaddle blankets (big and easy to swaddle) and also their burp cloths.. They are large, VERY absorbent (and we have a reflux baby who is a big spitter) and fit really well over the countour of your shoulder. Snugabunny swing- we actually own 2 now because he naps in it all day downstairs and sleeps in it upstairs each night due to his intestinal issues.  A bottle brush is a necessity and we also LOVE our Dr Browns bottle warmer... So easy to just pop in the bottle at night!

HATE: sleep gowns that are long with elastic at the bottom - very hard to pull up easily at night since the elastic is too tight.  Any full body outfits that must be pulled over his head.  Nuk pacifiers for a newborn.... We had a small baby and they smacked into his nose when he sucked.

LOVE: Another vote for the Rock N Play - this is a necessity!

HATE: sleep dresses, 2 piece outfits, onesies (I pretty much only like footed PJ type clothes at this stage - everything else is a pain to put on).

DD has been living in the onesies with built in fold-over mittens (she was a little small at birth and separate mittens always fell right off and she scratched her face). We got a Munchkin wipe warmer as a shower gift, which I didn't think I wanted, but it's been surprisingly wonderful. Cloth diapers for spit up rags - I'm amazed at how much this miniature human spits up! We love the boppy for mid-night feedings.

Nothing so far that we hate, but we haven't used a good amount of stuff yet.

I must be the only person on The Bump who doesn't have a RNP.

Love:  Nap Nanny, sleep sacks, and the pjs with built-in mittens.  The built-in mittens are a must because regular mittens fall off my LO.  The Miracle Blanket is a great swaddling blanket, and I love the Aden + Anais blankets.  We can swaddle LO in them without her overheating.  I prefer My Brest Friend to the Boppy for feeding, but the Boppy will be nice once LO can start sitting up.  I like the Avent breast pads - very absorbent and soft.

Hate:  onesies, Medela bottle nipples (they collapse), Avent bottles (heavy and annoying), Medela breast pads.

Also - take the booger sucker thing from the hospital and ask for a spare.  These are fabulous.  The ones I have that I bought at the store don't work very well.

I usually sound like a Pampers rep also. I LOVE LOVE LOVE their diapers and wipes and will not buy anything else. Thank goodness BRU has good coupons and I also use diapers.com cause they are a little pricey. DD couldn't wear them they made her breakout, and other diapers were a nightmare as far as leakage.

Love: Swaddlemes, playtex drop-in nursers, aden + anais burp cloths and swaddle blankets. One thing I haven't seen mentioned here yet is the wubbanub. These are soothie pacifiers attached to a little stuffed animal. They're adorable, but more importantly, they are easier to keep track of then other pacifiers (we always seemed to be losing pacis), and the stuffed animal helps keep the paci near baby's mouth, so it's easier for them to get it back when it pops out. Now that LO is a bit older, she also loves to play with the stuffed animal while we're out and about and she's in her car seat. Great item!

I hated the "Baby Minds" book by Linda Acredolo and Susan Goodwyn (the same people who have the "baby sign language" books). It's subtitled "Brain Building Games that your Baby will Love", so you think it's a book filled with activities that you can do with your baby. Actually, it's more of a textbook about neurological development in infants, with a few games in the back. It's kind of interesting, but not at all helpful when you are a sleep deprived new parent with no time to read, and you just want to figure out something to do with your baby! Try the Gymboree "Baby Play" book instead. It's a whole book of activities for babies sorted by age, with great pictures. This is now my go-to baby shower gift, along with the items above.

"I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind. Some come from ahead and some come from behind. But I've bought a big bat. I'm all ready, you see. Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!" - Dr. Seuss
