Charlie and Charlotte too similar for siblings?

Husband's family tradition is to name after the father, so both my husband and my son are Charles. We call them both Charlie. Our girl name choice was Charlotte, after my grandmother and great-grandmother.

We just found out that we're having a girl this time, and I still kind of want to use Charlotte to honor my family members, but husband is worried people will think he's narcissistic and compare him to George Forman because all of his kids are named after him.

What do you think? I don't want Charlotte as the middle name, because it was going to be Charlotte Julia to incorporate both grandmothers and I'm not a huge fan of Julia as the first name.

Oddly, we also have a cat named Charlie, but I swear that was his name when we adopted him! We call him Darwin, though :)

The fact that Charlie is used as a nickname for Charlotte aside (::shudder::), Charlotte is the feminine french form of Charles so I'm with your husband on this one.

Charlotte is one of my favorite names, but if I already had a Charles/Charlie I would not use it. Sorry, it is really pretty!

Yes, WAY too similar. They are the feminine and masculine versions of the same name. Maybe you could get away w/ a middle name of Charlotte.

Agreed.  FWIW I really love Julia Charlotte and I think Charlotte as the middle name would be fine since it's honoring family.  Julia is such a lovely, feminine name and so underused IMO.

This makes me smile because my BIL's family does the same thing.  All the men are Charlies.  And for me, that was too much for me to even consider Charlotte for a girl, since her uncles, cousins, etc. would all be Charlies.

Charlotte is the feminine form of Charles, so it's almost like naming them the same thing. I think it's too close, sorry. FWIW I really like both names.

ETA: What is your grandmother's middle name? Could you use that?

I agree its too similar, what about another similar style c name like Cosette or Colette? They are still similar but with a different starting sound would be fine on siblings.

The names up for combination are Charlotte, Julia, Karen, and Felicia. I really dislike Karen and Felicia. We may just end up not naming after either of them, i feel like it needs to be both or neither.

For most of her life she's not going to be seen as part of the sibset Charlie and Charlotte, so if you really love Charlotte I'd consider it, but ONLY if as a child she went by a nn ie Lottie - Charlie and Lottie don't sound as similar when they're both being called to dinner or told to go say hi to Uncle so and so.
