LOL at my friend.

My friend from high school has an 18 month old DD named Emily. They found out yesterday that they are having another girl. She posted on Facebook last night that they are naming the new baby Amelia. It didn't click to me until everyone posted that its the same name in two different languages. I felt bad for her haha, I think they are changing the name.

 

* Everyone was saying Amelia is Latin for Emily.

I know a lady with daughters named this. I know I get a little obsessive about names but I mean did they not look at the origin/meaning of either name before announcing their decision? If so, and they are comfortable with it...more power to them but NMS.

That's what everyone was saying! I'd be curious to know the meanings behind names/origins before I named my kids something too. I'm pretty certain after the tons of negative comments they will be changing her name.

I love both names, but for sisters....yeah they're pretty much the same name.

Aw I don't think they sound bad together at all and it's kind of silly... no one is going to be looking up name origins/meanings/translations etc. once you're out of the name game.

It's too bad though, such pretty names! She must feel so dumb too which makes me feel awful for her!

Yeah I felt bad for her too, but she is the type of person that would do this lol. They are both pretty names, I agree!

Even if they weren't of the same meaning, I'd just think they're too similar.  It'd be confusing, for me, anyway.  

Heck, I am considering a name for DD#2 that has a very similar meaning to DD#1, but they are completely different in every other respect.  (# syllables, letter, sound, one ends in a consonant and one doesn't.)

I think they sound a bit similar but I wouldn't have known they were two versions of the same name.  We never looked at name meanings though.  It was hard enough to find something DH and I both liked without adding in that aspect to the equation.
