Migraines-perscription question!

I'm pregnant with twins :) and in my first pregnancy with my 3 year old daughter, I was put on Fioricet, a prescription for my migraines. And my 3 year is perfectly healthy and intelligent :)

I was put on the same one this time around. I get a migraine almost every other day. They are obviously triggered by pregnancy hormones...

My pharmacist has suddenly refused to give me the medicine-I trust my doctor, so I don't see the problem. I did my research and I see more controversy over ibuprofen than I do with this medication.

Anyone else taken it? Or have concerns?

I took it last time and have it this time, though I've only had to take it once so far, thankfully.  I wasn't aware the pharmacist could even deny giving it to you.  Is that legal?

Unfortunately, pharmacists can deny you prescriptions. In this case that really seems like BS considering Fioricet is commonly prescribed during pregnancy. It is mostly acetaminophen and caffeine. It is only Cat C because butalbital hasn't been tested on pregnant women. Two of my best friends took it while pregnant and their kids are fine.

Doctors and Pharmacists disagree on the safety of most drugs during pregnancy.  A Pharmacist will say "No, you should not take this during pregnancy because it has not been proven safe".  In reality, most drugs have not been "proven" safe during pregnancy because really, who are they going to put in the experimental group?  What pregnant woman would volunteer.

I would call your OB and tell him/her.  I am sure he/she will put in a call to your Pharmacist and give him and ear full.

Apparently it is legal-which I don't really think is wrong, but it is my refill, so obviously they didn't have a problem before, nor in my previous pregnancy.

What really annoyed me is that the guy said to my mother (who was picking it up) 'and her first kid is ok? like not slow?' Thank GOD I wasn't there and he didn't say that to me. I taught special ed, and my brother is 'slow' (we do the special olympics every year! he's awesome!)...so I was like who actually SAYS that?!

ugh! I called my doctor and she was pretty annoyed being that she perscribed it, and I trust my doctor more than anything.

She called, they took care of it and they are filling it.

Hopefully the further along I am, the less often these lovely migraines will occur ;)

Thank goodness for these boards, lol, or I would be just freaking out. lol

:)

Your pharmacist sounds like a moron.  I would talk to the supervisor and go somewhere else.  Dumb.  Sorry about your migraines, they suck.

I was prescribed Fioricet by a neurologist with my second pregnancy and it was like I was taking a pez candy.  It didn't work for me.  It's odd that your pharmacist is second guessing your doctor.

I just got prescribed compazine today by my doc for my migraines.  I'm having debilitating pain at least once a week lasting 2-4 days each time.  I'm miserable.  Sad  Hopefully this Rx will work since the last one didn't.

Anyhow, I hope that you can get your prescription and find some relief!!
