What kind of crib are you buying? Crib mattress?

I've been using the Baby Bargains book to help me with my crib selection, it's been a great resource for me as I try to determine which brands are good quality furniture. I looked in the store at BRU and every crib was at least $400, plus another $150-200 for a converter set. I've found some much better deals online. According to Baby Bargains, Davinci cribs are supposed to be good quality, and Amazon and SimplyBabyfurniture.com has them on sale for about $270 (plus converter kit), and free shipping. Has anyone purchased this brand and are you happy with it?

Also- what kind of crib mattress do you have or recommend? I am interested in organic as I heard they are safer, less chemicals, and reduce your risk of SIDS. But I've also heard that most aren't waterproof and you need some kind of protective liner to keep it dry. Are these cheap and easy to get?

I bought my crib last night. I went with an IKEA crib. They have great safety ratings and saving on the crib allows me to splurge on the mattress a bit.

I decided against convertible options as I figure by the time DS is ready for a toddler bed, I'll want another baby and want to get her some fun girly princess bed or something. I don't care for the look of converted beds, either.

If a crib is sold in the US, it is required to meet certain safety guidelines. Don't buy used and you should be okay. Focus more on what you put inside the crib.

As far as mattresses go, here is what I have done for protection:
Absorbent pad
Bed sheet
Absorbent pad
Bed sheet

Then in the middle of the night if there's an accident, you can take off the top layer and move on, no remaking the bed at 2 AM.

my mom is going to get me a convertible crib, the kind that goes from crib to toddler bed to twin bed, I registered for a mattress that is double sided, so it's an infant mattress on one side, but soft for a toddler on the other. I'm also going to let baby sleep in his pack and play in our room pretty much till he can push himself up so I don't need a converter kit if the crib doesn't have that ability.

We are getting the Baby Cache Chantal crib from Babies R' Us. It is a bit expensive, but my mom offered to buy it for us as one of our Christmas gifts this year! Perfect for a little girls room :)

In picking out a crib we had to match it to a dresser we had recieved for a wedding gift. The color limited us, but I really like the crib we picked out.

This one:  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006NA3G70/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00

With two on the way, we had to find something affordable!  I was a little nervous because Amazon doesn't have many reviews, but Overstock carries the same set and it got great reviews over there.  We ordered it a few days ago, and I can't wait for it to come in!

We will use DS's crib, which is a Bonavita Metro with a Colgate Classica mattress. We've been very happy with both. I'll probably reuse the mattress but if it doesn't seem firm enough or something, I'll buy another Colgate.

You should definitely get a waterproof pad/sheet. Actually 2 would be a good idea.

We got the DaVinci Kalani Mini Cribs and are very happy with them.  You have to put them together yourself, some of the hardware shows, and they're kind of "no-frills."  But they are very solid, good quality wood, with a beautiful finish.  They are nicer than I expected them to be for what we paid, and imho, significantly better quality than the Ikea cribs we looked at.  We got them for 20% off during an Amazon mom event.

Me: 31 DH: 30
Dx DOR (AMH .49), Stage 3/4 Endo, Septate Uterus
After 2 years, numerous tests, abdonimal surgery, and 2 IVF cycles, we are so grateful to be expecting.
Transferred 2 "perfect" 8-cell embies 6/12. Beta 1 6/25: 472! Beta 2 6/27: 1055!
First u/s shows TRIPLETS! WHAT?!?! Both embies stuck and one split. OMG

I really like it. I had a few friends who have this crib and love it so that helps too. With Jackson we got this set...

http://bambibaby.com/bonavita-peyton-collection-3-piece-nursery-set-espresso-7985

and while I LOVE it. I just didn't want to invest that in a bedroom set again. Plus, he is using the bed as a full size bed now. I will say the wood is a bit softer than the Bonavita but, at $400 less I was not unimpressed at all. I love that it isn't super high to begin with also. I am 5'2'' and it was tough getting Jack out of his crib when we lowered the rails.

The grey is the perfect shade too.
