Placenta Question

I just left the doctor. I am 32 weeks pregnant today.

The baby's heart rate and antatomy is fine. The high risk doctor would like to see me next week due to the growth of the baby and placenta position. My placenta is covering my cervix. I went to the high risk doctor a month ago and the baby weighed 2lbs 18 oz. Today the baby's weight is 4 lbs 9 oz and 15 1/2 inches longs. The baby is measuring out at 33 and half weeks, but I just entered my 32 week.

I'm a little concerned.

The placenta covering your cervix (called placenta previa) means that you have to deliver via c-section. It can completely cover the cervix or incompletely. In very rare and mild cases, some doctors will let you deliver vaginally. The risk of vaginal delivery is because if the placenta is delivered first (or in any other way compromised), your baby will no longer get the oxygen and nutrients he/she needs while in utero.

I don't think your baby's growth has anything really to do with your placenta position. It is a bit alarming that he/she has gained almost 2 pounds in a month, but also remember that growth scans can be 1-2 pounds off. It seems like your doctor is on top of it. Large babies are usually due to maternal hyperglycemia or excessive calories than anything else. Average weight for 32 weeks is about 3.75 lb.

I have placenta previa, it was seen at my 20 week ultrasound.  I was put on lifting restrictions and pelvic rest.  A huge concern for you now is bleeding, that is excellent that you are already 32 weeks and have not bled!

My first bleed was at 24 weeks, I've been on hospital bedrest ever since (30w5d today) and I have had 4 bleeds.  I have had quite a few ultrasounds, my last one being this past tuesday baby measured 4lbs5oz but I also have GD.

Just take it easy until you see your doctor it may just be a partial previa which is better than a complete.  Again it's great that you havn't bled yet and you are already 32 weeks!

Thank you, I really should rest. I'm a teacher so I really should take it easy.
Thanks for the insight! I'm glad I haven't bled.
