Christmas Tree?

We live in a realtively small condo and have always had a full size real tree in the living room, but there would be no way to block it off from my baby. She is 9 months and just starting to crawl. I defintely want to get a tree and put lights on it, but will probably skip ornaments.

So I have two options, get a full size one and put it on the floor or get a smaller one and put on end table, what do you think? I am also kinda worried about the needles getting everywhere and her putting them in her mouth the second I look away.

We're skipping the tree, Baby K would be all over it.  I'm just going to try and decorate with other things.  I have a small silver tree I will put on a table and hang green garland from the mantle.  This is the 4th year we've been married and I've only had the chance to decorate the Christmas tree one time.  My due date was too close to Christmas last year and I didn't bother and our first Christmas we were on our honeymoon.

I would worry more about dd pulling a smaller tree off an end table onto herself than pulling over a full sized tree.  We've never skipped a tree since having kids and aside from the ornaments which we now put up high, never had too much of a problem.

You could just watch your child and redirect like I'm sure you already do a million times a day.  We're putting our tree up...lights, ornaments, everything.  We will be leaving one very old and very fragile ornament off the tree for a while to see how DD acts around it.

Happy to hear "Every" and "Crash"! We really really want a tree this year because it's our first year with our one and only baby and it's our first year in a house. Plus we have a great big window at the front of the house so we'll be able to see it from the outside. So we are going to put one up and hope for the best. I'm sure there will be lots of "NOs!" And if necessary we can put up a baby gate to block off the whole living room (but really don't want to do this). Can't wait!!!!!!!!

This. We've always put up our tree and don't have any issues. It's a little extra work, but I wouldn't not put up a tree because of it.

Personally, I LOVE this time of year and wouldn't want to skip the big tree, so I think that's a personal decision.

My son is 16mo now, but we're going to do the regular tree and homemade ornaments, so they will be kid-friendly. I made cinnamon dough ornaments last weekend (that he quickly realize taste horrible!), some felt Christmas trees with buttons, and snowflakes made out of wagon wheel pasta painted silver. I just looked up "DIY ornaments" on Pinterest and other sites... tons of ideas.

I'm a huge believer that Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year and take my traditions very seriously :)  I'd never even dream of not having a tree up!  We have a baby AND a cat for the first time, so it will be an adventure.

Modifications:  1. Not putting up the vintage bulbs that belonged to my great grandmother.  2.  Only large, non-breakable ornaments on the bottom.  3.  Bottom and more fragile or heavy ornaments will be tied on.  4.  No tinsel- this one makes me the saddest, but I know if any gets on the floor (which is inevitable) it will be in either DS's or the cat's mouth.  Tinsel can kill a cat.  I'm not sure what it does to people, but it can't be good.  I might invest in a bunch of little icicles or something to add that extra sparkle. 5.  Placing the tree in the corner to reduce the mass of temptation, and putting a barrier of toy boxes, blankets and large toys around the bottom.

We do have a fake tree, so in some cases I can just bend the branches back to secure the ornaments on.

Get the tree you want!  They'll be in it less this year than they will for the next three...

We had ours up on a little 14" tall table when DD was small - it was great, but this year I'm planning to do my tree just as I normally do..

We got a full sized real tree and LO is 10 months old. We'll see how it goes! lol I bought soft stuffed ornaments to put at the bottom of the tree. Putting one on an end table sounds dangerous. My LO loves to pull things off the end tables, but if yours little girl is just now crawling maybe it would be safe. We get a frasier fir and the needles aren't too bad. We put our tree in a corner that can be blocked off by a chair and a coffee table. Good luck to us both! lol
