Maybe a silly question: fever and 2WW

Hi guys,

I've been lurking here for a little while, but I also post on the T-TTC board. I am 2.5 yrs into TTC and have been diagnosed "unexplained IF". Recently started clomid and I'm just finishing up my second cycle, taking it day 3-7. Of course, I'm full of hope that for some reason this would be the magic fix and we'll be pregnant by Thursday (expected/possible CD1).

Annnyways... my question/concern is that I seem to have caught the flu (I NEVER get sick) and I've been running a fever all day of 100.4. I'm on CD24. Of course, I feel awful and yucky and that's bad enough, but I can't help but think that even if we did luck out with implantation this month, wouldn't a fever like this potentially end that possible pregnancy? I don't temp anymore (I did it all through 2011) but I know I'm usually at 97.5-98, so a two degree increase sounds like it wouldn't make my body hospitable for a pregnancy.

I know you can't give me a magic answer and I don't expect it, but I am anxious and upset about this and just wonder if I should be as worried/disappointed as I am. I appreciate any insight you can give...

I dont know the medical answer to your question (maybe call your doc in the AM?) but if I were in your shoes I'd take tylenol to keep my temp down. Tylenol is deemed safe for pregnancy, so that's what I'd take.

GL to you!

Take Tylenol if you are concerned about the fever, but no, I've never read anything anywhere about fever causing miscarriage, not to mention 100.4 is a pretty low-grade fever, not anything to really worry about.

This. 100.4 is the upper limit of normal temps.

During my last 2ww I got a 24 hr flu on 10dpo (tested and bfn that day) but fever went to 99.7, I was achy, throwing up, could barely move, etc.... I did manage liquids by the afternoon and tried to stay hydrated just in case with some gatorade and water. Taking Tylenol at 8pm was the best decision I made bc my fever went down and I got a good nights sleep and in the morning it was gone thankfully. Well to my surprise on 12dpo I got my bfp and so far so good. I was worried too about the dehydration more than anything else.

I appreciate all of your input. Obviously, I'm overreacting a bit. It helps to know this isn't a 'dealbreaker' and we still technically have a chance of a BFP. How tempting is it to load up on all the big flu drugs when you're sick though, hey? I swear I've seen 10 commercials for various drugs I shouldn't take right now. Anyways, much thanks - Tylenol and I are going to ride this one out and we'll see where it goes.

Never, because I know none of them do anything. The flu is viral. It must run it's course. Most of those flu "remedies" are nothing more than dressed up Tylenol or Tylenol PM (also safe).

Agreed and I had a temperature about 100.1 during the 2WW when I was KU with DD#1, not to get your hopes up.

P.S.  I like to think of it this way:  If raising your body temperature to 100.4 could keep you from getting pregnant, don't you think that women that had an oops and didn't want to be pregnant would be flocking to saunas during the 2WW instead of buying something like Plan B?

;)

Good luck!  I hope this is your cycle!!
