Not trying to be mean

Why do people rush to the er when they think they're having a miscarriage? I understand if it could be eptomic preg. Spelling? I'm not trying to be insensitive, I had a MC in April.
Are you going for piece of mind? Are you afraid of bleeding too much?

Well, you don't know everyone's health history and some ppl don't explain it. I went to the er when I MC bc I have low iron and the blood loss made me feel like crap and I turned as white as a ghost. So, I went to make sure I didn't pass out on my 3 children. :)

Some women think it is what you are supposed to do because they don't know anything else. When I started to miscarry I did a lot of research. I found that at early pregnancy they is really nothing to be done at the er. Unless I was bleeding super bad or in so much pain I couldn't function I decided to sty home. I'm glad I did. It was private and I was more comfortable. But some women don't know and hope the er can do something or give them piece of mind. I'm glad I chose to stay home. But for women I'm sure they are glad they went.

Thanks for your reply. I began to miscarry at church, it was horrible. But I was just curious. I have heard some say that the doctor told them to go.

What does it really matter to you what people decide to do when they are scared they are losing their child? I find this post horribly insensitive, considering someone mentions just a few down that they went to the E.R. after losing clots of blood. And the "Not trying to be mean" headline ... Come on.

If it was to happen to me again, and I couldn't get in to see my OB-GYN in a timely matter, I would want to know if I was bleeding for some other reason or if my baby had died, plain and simple. And I have instructions to do such, as I can't figure that out at home, now can I?

Holy heck, we're pregnant again! Please stay here with us little Otter.

We have a heartbeat! 138 beats per minute and measuring right on track. Ultrasound 11/7/12 showed heartbeat in the 160s. Negative MaterniT21 results ... Found out at Anatomy Scan we're Team Blue!

Drs will say that sometimes. I think for liability issues. Covering their own ass. I just couldn't imagine being at a hospital for hours with strangers while going through that. I stayed at home and cried with my husband. Much more comfortable for me.

Let me add. I do believe you need to follow up with your obgyn though. Which I did the next day.

Why don't you guys stop attacking the op. the er for a miscarriage is almost always not necessary and could be dealt with at your obgyn when you can get in. Most women just go for reassurance or because they are scared. Which is fine. Each woman needs to make the choice for herself. Op was just wondering as to why some women do when it is almost always never medically necessary.

Yes, this exactly. I promise I'm not a rude insensitive person. I have experienced it, it's very sad and horrible. I was just wondering...wondering if maybe I was suppose to when it happened.

I would probably go because it would be the quickest way of confirming a miscarriage or to see if it could be something else, like a SCH.

Yeah that's why I went when I had bleeding in my second pregnancy. I lost my first at six weeks and didn't go in. With the second I went in and it turned out to be a SCH. I'm really glad I did because I was terrified I was having another MC. I got pregnant the next time I ovulated and so it was still very fresh just 8 weeks later. Thank heavens it was nothing. I was able to see my daughters HB for the first time and that was the first time that pregnancy I was able to breathe. I would go again.

I had spotting and some bleeding, and I went to the doctor's. The doctor informed me that if I should start bleeding *heavy* and cramping, I should go to the ER.

Kellim, don't worry about what other people do. It's kind of none of your business. If they are wrong, then the problem is theirs and not yours. No offense intended.

I rushed to the ER over the weekend due to some red spotting bc I had to. I am RH- and knew I needed to get my Rhogam shot. But I also found out my cervix is tight and the baby is just fine.

Married my BEST FRIEND on December 1, 2007. Started TTC in March 2008. Found out we were expecting our first child in October 2008 - but had a m/c in December 2008 - resulting in a d&e. Met with a RE in May 2009 and set a plan - but conceived unexpectedly on our own! Our precious little Sophia was born on February 9, 2010! Lilypie Third Birthday tickers

Miscarriages can be different for everyone. From not knowing you're having one to thinking your dying! I had one in aug I woke up in the middle of the night sweating.. Nauseated with the most severe abdominal pain. I was bleeding a little but that's not why I went to ER. I laid in a ball on my bathroom floor in tears until I couldn't take it anymore. The dr thought it may have also been an ovarian cyst but we really don't know. He said sometimes they are painful but it's very unlikely only 56 weeks. But I have spoke with 2 people now with multiple kids that said their miscarriages were worst than labor.? So who knows. I rarely go to the dr.. Had never been in ER but all I can tell you is that night I thought I was going to die!

I was told by my GP during my two losses to go to the ER. I also went because I didn't really know what else to do. I was scared. They may not be able to do much for someone experiencing an m/c, but in the moment, all you know is they are medical professionals and you need help.

Wouldn't you want to know if it was a miscarriage or something else? Bleeding doesn't always indicate a miscarriage.

This this why I went to the ER. Of course I know that nothing can be done once you begin to m/c but what if it wasn't a m/c? It could be a SCH and I would want to know.

I don't think OP really wants to understand. I think OP just wants everyone to know that she knows better than to run to the ER for a miscarriage.Because she's smarter than everyone else.

Fluck that. I miscarried. You can bet your asss that when i started bleeding and then stopped I went to urgent care. Do I regret "using up health care services" nope.

This.

I lost my first at 21 weeks.  Should I have labored at home by myself?  Good think I didn't since I developed an infection and almost ended up septic.

With my second I started gushing bright red blood at 12 weeks, enough to fill a pad in <10 minutes.  I went to the ER.  It ended up being a SCH.

The first time I miscarried was on a weekend and the second a Monday evening. There was no freaking way I was going to wait the weekend/the night to find out what the fluck was going on. Everyone makes the decision that is best for them, end of story.

This. I went in at 6w because I was bleeding a lot and it turned out to be a SCH. I was put on pelvic rest at that point and told to take it easy.

However, it was scary to be bleeding that much and think that I was going to lose our LO. I couldn't imagine just staying at home and not knowing whether or not I miscarried. Besides that fact, I called the nurse hotline and they told me to come in.

OP, I think it's pretty crappy to come here and criticize women for going to the ER during a m/c or when they are concerned they are having one.  You do not know each individual woman's health history or their state of mind during such a devastating time.  You only know YOUR situation.

I had a m/c in July and I went to the ER at the request of my CNM when I told her I was spotting.  Did I already know that there was nothing they could do to prevent a m/c if my baby had already died?  Yes.  Would I have gone anyway?  Yes.  Why?  Because this was my first pregnancy, I was scared, and I wanted as many answers as I could get.

What other women choose to do during their pregnancies, m/c's, deliveries, etc. has absolutely NOTHING to do with you, so I suggest you remember that the next time you think to come on TB and judge other women.
