STMs and BFeeding...

With my Daughter, I was only able to EBF for 6 months, and it was a struggle to do that, often having to supplement with formula for half of her feedings  ...The place I worked had no "Private" area for me to pump, so my only option was in the single bathroom...I did it for the 3 months I was there, but it was such a struggle and I felt so dirty to be forced to have to use the bathroom to pump when I was at work.

Anyway, I am going to try and push for at least 1 year with DS due in march, and I am really really excited to do it. I work in an OB office now (so there will be NO issues with pumping at all, thank goodness!)...

Are there any STMs who are planning on going longer with LO#2, shorter or not at all?

I plan to bottle feed BM as well (same as with DD) but with BM, no formula if I can help it, so that DH can do feedings, but I plan to pump as much as possible and BF as often as I can....

You can do it, mama!  I BF'd DD for 2.5 years and I pumped at work until she was 15 months old.  She never had formula even though I returned to work FT when she was 3 months old.  It was tough, but actually not that bad once I got into a routine with pumping at work.

With this LO I'm hoping to be able to do the same (DD self-weaned, so I plan to let this LO self-wean as well).  I work for the same company, but I have way more responsibility now and my schedule is more packed, so I'm going to have to make a more conscious effort to schedule pumping time and possibly even pump during my drive in to the office.

I was only able to go to about 4 1/2 months with DD1 due to severe skin issues and allergies. With DD2 I was able to go to 8something months before it got harder and I was ready to move to formula. It was overall MUCH much easier the 2nd time around. The 3rd time I don't htink I'll have any issues or at least I'm hoping not to. =)

I went 22 months with DD#1.  I plan to go as long with DD#2 if possible.  I exclusively breast fed until working solid foods--no formula at all.

The change I will make is introducing bottles (of breastmilk) earlier so DH can feed her easier.  We were so worried about nipple confusion that when we introduced DD to a bottle, she took it once, then we didn't try again for a while and DH was never able to get her to take a bottle.  It meant that when I worked (in the summer) he ended up taking her to my office and I'd nurse her in the car.  Not doing that again, but he never was able to get her to cooperate, so we're introducing bottle feeding earlier (with breastmilk pumped) and hopefully, DD#2 will be able to be fed by either of us, which should be helpful with DD#1 not wanting to lose all of her mommy time entirely to the encroacher!

That's great that you are working somewhere that won't inhibit your BF'ing! Good luck!

I BF'd my DD for 20 months and plan to do the same with this one. We'll see how it goes.

I loved BF DS! I did it for a year with him, I am hoping to at least do it as long, possibly pump to feed LO BM longer.

I worked at Pizza Hut when I was pumping for DS, and I flat out told my boss I needed to take over his office every so often to pump. He was fine with it. Though on days when he was not there, I tried to just do it without having to mention it to anyone else. Didin't work, had to explain it to the shift manangers. Lol. The looks on their faces.

I breastfed my daughter for just about 2 1/2 years so I have no worries about making it "long enough." I'll be happy if we make it to a year because I am in such a different situation now. I'll probably be pumping (and feeding BM in a bottle) more because of my FI's aversion to openly nursing in public (I respect his wishes on this, and there are easy ways around it, and we don't really go out anywhere anyway). But if we can go a year without formula, then I won't feel bad transitioning to cow's milk at that point.

I'm really looking forward to breastfeeding this LO now that I know what to expect from having BF DD for so long!

I worked at an ob office with dd#1. They were so great about my pumping schedule. I returned to work at 6 weeks as i did not have vacation built up and could not afford to continue unpaid.

I pumped until 11 mo, because my supply had substantially dropped and it caused me more frustration than I needed 3x a day. I continued to nurse at home and used up my freezer stash than switched to wcm during the day. I also was using fenugreek and more milk plus, which had worked earlier, but no longer.

This time, as a sahm, I will pump for a stash, but plan to nurse nearly exclusively, so I hope my supply will last until we are both ready.

That's awesome.  Sounds like a much better environment this time.  I bf'd DD for almost 20 months and thankfully never had to supplement with formula.  I have high expectations of doing the same this time, so I hope it works out or I'll be pretty bummed.

I BF'd DS for over a year, but I never had a full supply. In the beginning I was able to supplement him after feedings with the small amount I pumped (he was really, really slow to gain weight) and around 6 months we had to start supplementing 1 bottle/day of formula. My goal this time is to do the best I can. I'm pretty sure I will still have supply issues (I think my problem is lack of glandular tissue), so I'll do my best and try not to be as stressed out and freaked. I was way, way too stressed the first time, was really upset about giving formula (even though I quickly realized it was a  huge stress reliever when I couldn't pump as much as he was taking and I was up pumping at night, in the morning, etc.), so I'm hoping to be a little less crazy and more easy going this time around. :)

ETA: I pumped till 11 months, nursed till about 14.

My first son would not latch and my milk never came in (I kept waiting for swelling breeasts and discomfort, and pumped every few hours but never got more than 1 oz per day).  I am hoping to have better success with son #2.  My office is very accommodating to pumping mothers.  In fact, there are 2 moms now who are pumping every day, one with a 4 month old and one with a 9 month old.

I made it to 6 months with DD, and am hoping to go longer with this one.  Once I was back at work and having to pump, my supply took a SERIOUS hit.  However, I did not pump at all before I returned to work to really beef up my freezer stash and get my supply higher, so I am hoping that doing that this time helps.  We'll see.  One thing I learned though, is that not BFing until she was 1 was certainly not the end of the world :)

I was working part time with DD so I EPed the last 3 months (plus she got to the point she refused to latch) and I BFed her for almost 7 monts but this time in a SAHM so hopefully I will be able to EBF with not a lot of pumping... And I'm hoping to get to 9 to 12 months. After 7 months last time I almost wished I had just kept it up, it was so much easier than formula, I was just so tired of feeling like a cow 4 times a day and it took an hour each time.

I'm sorry you had such a crappy work situation last time.

I nursed DD up until a week ago and I have no idea whether I will go that long with this LO or not.  I would like to make it to at least a year again but really it's up to him/her how long we do it.  I will pump though and give BM bottles while I'm working and if he/she decides to wean earlier than a year.

I plan to BF about as long as I did with DS. I had some ups and downs and issues with BFing but I was at home with DS so I was able to overcome them. I hope to not encounter those same problems this time and have a smoother road. I BF DS until 22 months.

I absolutely loved BFing DD.  She only ever had one bottle of formula - and that was in the hospital NICU before she was released to me to make sure she had a good suck/swallow reflex.  I pumped until she was about 13 months and had to remind myself to stop because it just became such a routine.  She self-weaned at 16.5 months and I was really sad.  It was a great experience for us (after we got past the initial 2 weeks of total pain, that is.)  :)

I could not be happier for my fabulous TTC buddy, MandaPanda518!

Baby Panda is on the way!!!

I pumped until about a week ago.  I'm still nursing my DD at least once a day.  I hope to go that long if not longer with my next one.

I nursed DD1 for just over 3 years and DD2 for 27 months. I worked full time with both girls, so I pumped at work until they were 12 months.

This time around I'm only working part time, so I'm really excited to not have to pump as much. For me that was the only inconvenient part of bfing. My goal is at least 2 years again.

I pumped until 12 months with DD (probably 13 by the time I gradually stepped it down) and plan to do the same with this LO.

DD is still not weaned, I kind of hope this LO won't want to nurse quite as long!
