FAQs... I wish we had

Maybe it's because I'm 25 weeks and have been on the 2nd Tri board too long, but I wish we could have a post that stays at the top that address all the FAQs...so people quit making the exact same posts, over, and over. Here's what it would say: (feel free to add on)

Q: I haven't gained any weight (or almost any!)! Is that OK?

A: Yes. If your doctor hasn't said anything, you are fine. No weight gain (or even loss due to nausea) is normal by the end of the first trimester, and then the average is 1# a week from there. If you are still nauseated you may still have trouble gaining weight. Your doctor will address it if it is necessary.

Q: I've gained like 10 (15 etc) pounds already! Is that OK?

A: Maybe. About 5 lbs in the first trimester followed by 1-2# a week is what is considered acceptable. More if you started off underweight, less if you started off overweight. If you've already gained your 25-35 lbs and you haven't hit your 3rd trimester, that is probably a problem. Your doctor will address this with you if it is a problem.

Q: When will I show?

A: If you are a FTM, probably not until you are nearly 20 weeks, plus or minus 4 weeks and depending on your body type. If your doctor says your fundal height is OK, then there is nothing to worry about. We all carry differently and no one will show at the same time.  

Q: Aack, my symptoms disappeared! Am I still pregnant? Should I be worried?

A: Probably not. This happens very frequently with the transition to 2nd trimester.

Q: Aaack, I'm 18 (19, 20 etc) weeks and still sick! Is this OK? Will it ever end?

A: I'm sorry, that sucks. But it does happen to some people. If you are unable to gain weight, keep down water and nutrients, or start getting too dehydrated, then your doctor will likely intervene with medications. Do your best and try not to get too full or too hungry.

Q: I'm still in my skinny jeans and i'm 18 weeks, is baby OK?

A: Probably. See weight question above, but everyone "pops" differently. If your doctor hasn't said anything, don't stress.

Q:  When will I need maternity clothes? 

A: Hugely variable depending on what you wear, but many people are switching to maternity pants or bella bands by 12-13 weeks and most are there by 18. But if you aren't, please don't worry. The Mantra should be...if your doctor hasn't said anything, you are fine. 

Q: When will I feel the baby move? What if I have an anterior placenta?

A: As early as 15-16 weeks. Completely normal if it isn't until 20-22 weeks. This depends on how many you have had (FTM are later than STM+), how much extra weight you carry (thinner apparently feel earlier) and where your placenta is (anterior feel later and less than posterior).  

Q: My boobs are leaking and i'm only (X) weeks! Is that OK?

A: Yes. Colostrum can start anytime. Breast pads are your friend.

I agree with you completely, the same questions asked over and over.  Often, if people would google their question or type it in to the search function here on The Bump, they would find the answer.  It seems to be the same on every board.  On the Baby Shower board, the question about second child baby showers seems to get asked every day...lol.

I agree, but I guess that's what our BMB boards are for. That way we can go there and get away from all these crazy questions. And hopefully, they don't ask the same questions there!

We will be out of the 2nd trimester soon!

We can make as many FAQ posts as we want and pin them to the top of the board but those repetitive posts will keep on coming. It's the CIRCLE OF THE BUUUUUUUUUUMP...

Meh, it's just the cycle of the tri boards... first tri is a bunch of BFPs and is it safe to eat questions, second tri is weight gain, anatomy scans, and sex announcements, and third tri is mucus plugs, BH, and labor check ins.  It's how it's always been, and always shall be.

Not to mention that it's useful for posters with later due dates to get the perspective of others that are just a little ahead of them.

This! LOL I avoided a lot of what I feel now are ridiculous questions just from lurking. As a newbie I usually try to not post a question someone else asked just yesterday and got 10 answers to!

This doesn't make people feel very welcome to come in and ask questions. I agree that they are often repeated but to each person who is asking it means something. I guess I won't be asking anything else on this board.

On other boards, the search is more prominent and/or integrated into posting to suggest your question might have been asked already before it lets you post it. The Bump community is fabulous but the web site features are sorely behind the times IMO. This is just one more example of that.

I get you're annoyed.  However, you need to unclench.  I see you peed on that bush over there & are feeling possessive about your territory here.  You don't own the interwebs, and you cannot control what comes out of people's mouths.  Evar.  Just look at what interests you or move on if things bother you too much.

It doesn't. freaking. stop. No one listens, no one looks around to try to find answers, and no one uses the search feature. I posted a really great post a while back about ultrasounds, and even though people asked for it to be made a sticky, it wasn't, and lookie there... no one uses the search feature to try to find it. 

"I'm a spe-shul snowflake and my ? is diferent! U dont know my lyfe?!?!11?!"

3rd tri is all, "Did my water break or did I pee myself? I lost my mucus plug, am I in labor? What do contractions REALLY feel like? Am I in labor?" And all of that jazz.

It's fun.

Not. 

It's like on 1st tri when people were saying they could feel the baby kick at 8 weeks or felt the baby up in their ribs at 10. Dudes. Your ute ain't even that high up yet. Chill.

Don't let it bother you. When you see a post that's asking the same question you've heard a million times, ignore it. I'm only just entering the 2nd trimester but I've been there a few times already. I see lots of questions and coments here and in 3rd trimester that seem like everyone should already know but I don't care. Someone needs reassurance so someone else can give it to them.

Sometimes reading something isn't the same as having people here tell you the same thing.

I like the idea but I doubt it would get rid of repetitive questions. But it'd still be good to have one.

I agree.  If someone has a question that they want to ask, let them ask it.  This is a message board, right??

If you aren't interested in answering it, just move on to another post you are interested in.

FAQ or not, everyone feels that their situation is different.  And many times the person asking does have a different situation. 

 And it's nice to get reassurance from others in your same situation.

Don't worry about what others are doing, you'll be on to the third tri board soon.

I agree with the annoying factor... but honestly, even if a post like that was at the top, I think people would STILL post the same questions over and over again. I really think that everyone somehow believes her situation is somehow different. And I guess it's more reassuring for people to hear responses to their own individual situations than to just read a "blanket" response. I generally just try to skip those posts!

I wish they did sticky posts (like they do on a lot of net forums) for every individual common topic (ie. those above). And I can't seem to get the search function to ever work, it's annoying. Maybe it just searches the message headings? But, for instance, when I type in "weight" for "current board" nothing comes up. 

So I preemptively apologize to all for any repetitive posts I may make in the future...
