New. Worries.

Hello ladies.
I'm new to the Bump :)
Friday I missed my period and had a positive pregnancy test. We lost our first pregnancy this time last year, the day before Thanksgiving. We have been ttc for almost four years now and this second pregnancy is nothing but a blessing.

My concern is, I had a miscarriage last time. I know most likely something was imperfect with the embryo.

My second blood draw results will be back tomorrow morning. My first blood draw (guessing I'm around 4 weeks based on LMP and O Day) was on Friday and was at 165.

I guess my question is, should I go ahead with a trans-vaginal ultrasound at week six? December 3rd is when I have my first clinic visit. I've heard from a close friend that she thinks that might have been what caused her miscarriage. I guess no real evidence has been gathered to support that theory, but I just don't want to risk another loss.

Would you go ahead with a six week trans-vaginal ultrasound with a history of miscarriage? ~I too had trans-vaginal ultrasounds before my miscarriage.

Ultrasounds absolutely positively do not ever cause miscarriages.

Yes, absolutely.  With all due respect, your friend is a moron.  Most people with a history of loss and/or infertility have earlier u/s to confirm that everything looks okay.

I really just want to hear the baby's heartbeat. After the heartache of the loss of our first baby after trying for three years for the first baby, I just want to hear the heartbeat of this baby to know it's in there for real. Obviously I wouldn't have tested positive twice and my level wouldn't be at 165 if I wasn't pregnant... but I need to know. If I see the little bean on the screen and hear the baby's heartbeat, maybe I can calm down a little. Take it easy. You know? I really wish she wouldn't have said anything at all. I already have enough to stress out about as this will potentially be my first baby.

You won't actually hear it at 6 weeks. You may see it and the machine will create a noise based off the image it is picking up.

I would get it done. I hope everything goes well for you this time.

I heard it at six weeks with the first pregnancy. They did a trans-vaginal ultrasound because a regular ultrasound wouldn't have picked it up. I guess even if I can see the baby, that will help.

First of all, congrats! It's for sure a blessing and I'll pray that everything will go great this time!

I have been having weird discharges during all my pregnancy (7 weeks now) and so I had freaked out about MC before, however I just resigned and started to think in the "Today I am pregnant and I love my baby" motto.

We already saw the heartbeat with an abdominal ultrasound last week (5-6 weeks pregnancy), the doctor said it was because I am very thin, usually you don't see it from outside that early. However, she mentioned that if we wouldn't have found it with the abdominal u/s, then she would definitely have tried with trasvaginal... I really don't believe that can lead to a miscarriage...

Good luck and try to keep calm, baby can feel all your stress.

I've read the earliest you can see a heartbeat is 6w4d. Can you push off your appointment a few days? To be safe maybe a week?

I just checked my Pregnancy Calendar and December 3rd actually puts me to Day 2 of Week 7. In that case, they should have no problem finding a heartbeat.
