Last resort for feeding

I have posted many times before with questions about formula and tips to for constipation. Ds2 has a cow milk protein allergy, so we have to give him soy formula. The soy makes him constipated but gets rid of the rash on his face. And I have tried many other formulas hoping it would clear up his rash and stop the constipation. But nothing works. And I have hit my breaking point. Ds2 has been back on the soy for about 4days and hadnt pooped in about 3days. But tonight he poop, which was an hour long thing of his pushing and screaming just to only get a little out. And well there was a little blood in it. I am so stressed trying to find something that will work for my son. A few family members have started to suggest I give him goats milk. Of course im going to talk to the doctor before I do it. But I was wondering if anybody here has tried it. Or maybe another type of milk for their little one.

PLEASE HELP!

After trying tons of different formulas and dealing with severe reflux and milk/soy protein intolerance we wound up on Elecare which causes constipation.  I often feel like we continue to trade one problem for another.  Our pediatric gastroenterologist prescribed lactulose for the constipation... We are still tweaking his dose as he continues to strain, grunt, push and cry sometimes BUT it's improved over where we were with 48+ hours without pooping.   She also suggested that if he went too long and was in too much pain, we could stimulate his anus with either an anal thermometer or a q tip with Vaseline.  Although we were cautioned to not do this too frequently because their bodies can learn to expect this stimulation to go and they will stop doing it on their own (she did say this "learned" behavior would take a while since our LO is so young).

I'll warn you though... If you do stimulate and his poop is loose, it will come pouring out... We've had "poopsplosions" all over everything!  If it's firm you may want to inquire about a dose of lactulose which will help him go and soften his stool.  Plus, it's safe for longer term use than a medicated suppository.

Trust me I feel your pain... Watching them struggle and cry out in pain is heart wrenching!  Good luck!

I would check out the food allergy board, but I am pretty sure that lots of babies that have a cow's milk allergy/intolerance also have one w/ soy.

My son had similar problems. He went 4 days without a bowel movement at one point. We used infant suppositories and once used the bulb syringe to put a little warm water to get things moving. The suppositories were so great. They relieved our son and he would smile after! The pediatrician said I could use them as needed. At one point we used two in one day. Then we started using Similac Allimentum. Which is expensive but it's for babies with a lactose or soy allergy. He's now pooping once a day.
