Too early to tell...

Hello all you expecting mommies...I'm hoping your experience can help me answer a few newbie questions. My husband and I have recently begun trying for baby...we followed the advice given and tracked ovulation by date and confirmed with other physical signs. We are crossing our fingers we will get a positive pregnancy test, but my question comes after that. I know to call ASAP to set up a visit, usually around 8-10 weeks but I'm curious if they will confirm your pregnancy by blood test prior to that "first visit?"

My other question is, does anyone know if women with POTS Syndrome are initially considered high risk and would need to be seen sooner than 8-10 weeks? Any advice for this anxiously waiting newbie would be wonderful...thank you in advance"

I can only answer the first part - every doctor is different. Not all doctors do blood tests. The only way to know is to call your doctor and see what they do.

And some doctors don't do 8-10 weeks. I don't go in until 12 weeks.

Since you do have a health issue, definitely call and see what they want you to do.

Yes, every doctor is different and it also depends on the situation. I was freaking out because I bled twice (just a small spot) and they made an u/s right away on week 5 and then on week 6 again (we saw the heartbeat then!!).

I have my first official appt on week 8-9 and that's when I get the bloodwork done. I didn't have any blood tests, here where I live they never do that anymore (Netherlands), they entirely trust when you pee on a stick! They also never do the hormone levels blood tests to see if baby is fine. They make you wait for a complete week and then do u/s again to measure size. I know, a bit irritant but it makes you be patient about it so I don't freak out anymore.

I called my doctor the morning after I got a positive test at home and they had me come in 2 days later for an initial visit. They just did a urine test to confirm and asked me if i had questions and went over what the next steps will be and then had us go home and talk about what hospital we wanted to look into and called her back and she scheduled our first prenatal appointment for us. That will be on December 18 and I will be about 8 1/2 weeks at that point.

Hope this helps a little. :)

I called the day I got a BFP and doctor didn't see me for 4 more weeks when I was 8 weeks even for the blood work to confirm.

My Dr's office has you come in between 5 and 6 weeks for bloodwork, but they don't run a pregnancy test on it. It's blood typing, chicken pox titer, thyroid levels, etc. They also check your urine, and I do believe they dip a pregnancy test on that. Then you go back for an u/s at 8 weeks.

Not sure where you are, but I'm in RI and I go in for my first u/s tomorrow at 7.5 weeks to confirm the pregnancy, then go in again around 9-11 weeks for my first inital appt with the dr (really the nurse practitioner).  Not sure what happens after that, but I know that I don't get any blood taken or urine test, then just do an internal u/s.

My doctor does blood work when you come in but not just for pregnancy. They have you POAC to confirm and then do the family history stuff.

We don't have our first appointment until 8 weeks.

My doctor doesn't do blood tests, they just do a urine test.  I went with all three pregnancies at 6 weeks.
