Tips on how to tell my parents, states away.

I'm so confused on how we should tell my parents they will be grandparents. My husband I are in a tight financial situation tight schedules, so not able to fly over tell the news. I'm trying to be creative, but nervous of what they will say. Any ideas?

Skype with them so you can still see their reaction. Maybe send them a card or a letter, put an U/S pic or something in it, have them open it while you're on skype.

ETA - We haven't told ours yet because it was important to us to tell them in person. So we waited and saved the money so we could go home for Thanksgiving and tell them then. I've hated waiting this long but hopefully seeing them in person it will be worth it.

Them trying to figure out Skype would be a nightmare, but I love that idea! I will for sure try to get them to download it say it's for something silly or so we can see each other.

We just found out this weeks, so were not able to save the money up in time I am in college break isn't long enough thank you :

Ditto Skype... seeing the reaction is the best part :-)  Skype is also fantastic once the LO arrives. We Skype with the grandparents all the time and it has really helped LO bond with them.

We are several states away as well, but it worked out that we were able to meet in the middle (about 4 hours for each of us). My husband was in that town for work anyways and I tagged along and told my parents we just wanted to see them. We made little gift bags with bibs saying "I love Grandma" and "I love Grandpa" and watching them open it was awesome!

Maybe send a little gift in the mail with a note saying to call you when they get it before they open it. You could still hear their reaction over the phone.

Another friend of mine and her very tech savvy husband made a  youtube video and sykped while they watched it.

I just called my parents and told them. They were both really happy and I could hear that in their voices. It doesn't have to be creative and costly. I'm sure my parents would rather just share in the happiness than know that I stressed over how to tell them. In the end, I think we do a lot of that stuff to make ourselves happy, not the other people.

I love all these ideas, thank y'all so much. It's my first one, so I'm freaking out a tad, even though I'm 25 married I still feel like a teenager scared to tell them lol, silly I know. Maybe its because I am in college. This would be a lot easier if I wasn't in south Florida they weren't in Oklahoma. lol

I felt the same way about telling my parents. My in laws I knew would be excited, and my MIL cried as expected. But since my parents had been such a pita about getting married "young" I was worried.

And, in June, while hospitalized my Dad was telling me that 28 32 is the perfect age to have kids. I'm 23. That's why we didn't tell them we were TTC... I didn't want to deal with them trying to talk me out of it! Now it's too late hah.

But my parents were actually pretty excited, and yours probably will be too! And if they say you're too young or something crazy, just tell them to be glad you didn't get pregnant as a teenager!

I recommend Skype as well. My mom is not very tech savvy at all and I had to walk her through the download process like I was Tech Support.

We told both sets of parents over Skype and were able to take photo screen shots of their reaction over the computer. The pictures are really funny. They made a great addition to the baby book.

Ever since DS arrive we Skype with Grandparents every weekend. My mom sings and reads books to my little one. He gets really excited to open the computer and interact with them.

If you can invest the time to get them hooked up with Skype, it will really be great in the future. Maybe get them a webcam for Christmas.

We live in Tennessee, and all of the parents are in Florida.

None of them ever answer their phones the first time, and we really wanted to avoid the awkward moment of "should I leave a message?"

So we made cards! We painted our hands with finger paints and made hand-print turkeys. The card says, "Happy Thanksgiving!"

On the inside it reads, "We're cooking up a little turkey! Too bad it won't be finished until July..."

That way, they'll find out in a cute way, and we'll be anticipating their phone calls (and no one has to leave a message or figure out skype)
