Baby Girl name: Elora

What do you guys think of the first name Elora, pronounced like "uh laura" or "E laura"? I even thought about perhaps nicknaming her Ellie for short.  My other daughter (who is 6) is Evey, pronounced like the two letters E V.

I like this name a lot!  My sister just used it as a middle name for her baby girl to honor our great aunt named Eleanor - I guess it's a derivative of Eleanor.

I wouldn't use Ellie as a nickname, personally, because I feel like there are so many little Ellies and Ellas around.  Elora is unique and pretty on its own.

I think most people would pronounce it EE-LORA as it looks instead of EE-LARA.  It's a pretty name if you don't mind having to correct the pronounciation.  I prefer Eleanor.  And I like the nn Ellie even though it's super popular.

You're right, Lora, not Laura.  I was focused more on the long vs. short e at the beginning and slipped on the Lora part. :) We have to correct people often with Evey (they say a short E instead of long E in the beginning), so it would be nothing new for us!

 

We could do Eleanor, with nickname Elora.  Evey is actually a NN for Evelynn, but I only ever call her Evelynn when she's in trouble!

Oh okay in that case, I love Elora.  As I said above, I really like Eleanor, but Elora has a similar feeling, but with a more modern twist.  I also love Evelyn :)

I have a 5 year old cousin named Elora.  I'm not going to lie, she's a sweetie, but I don't love the name.  Which is funny, because if we had a girl, her Hebrew name would have been Eliora, which for some reason I do like.

My best friend is named Elora, and I've always thought it was such a beautiful name! She pronounces it EL-ORA.

Love this name so much!

ETA I wouldn't use a NN, as I think it takes away from how beautiful the name is! Just MHO.

This is how I would pronounce it, too.  I really like this name!  I agree that it really really doesn't need a nickname.  It's so pretty and unique, and not a mouth-full.

I thought of Willow too but I've liked that name ever since I first heard it there. Very pretty and it goes well with your DD's name. Funny coincidence, but my DH's grandma was Evelyn and one of her sisters is Eleanor.
