Killer Heartburn

What do you do to quelch the fire? I forgot my medicine at work this morning and have been suffering for the last 3 hours. I've downed about 2L of water so far but that doesn't help much. I don't even think I ate anything that would bring it on (just plain cereal and milk)...

Tums, Ginger Ale, Sprite (fizzy drinks help me burp which seems to give me some heartburn relief).

also anything bland that will absorb some acid helps me--crackers, dry toast, pretzels.

Good luck!  I know it feels awful :-(

For me, Tums just makes it worse.  I found that there are chewable antacids availalble at Walgreens - store brand.  They don't taste very good, to me, but they work.  Milk helps too as long as I am not queasy.

If I don't have medicine, I'll drink a cup of milk. But I get these off brand Zantac at heb that has 65 for 4 dollars. My doctor said they are fine to take.

Milk helps me, I eat plain bread and milk and things calm down.  Water actually makes my heartburn worse.

I pretty much just keep tums everywhere... in my desk drawer, at my house, in my purse. It's the only thing that helps me.

Try eating frequent small meals or snacks instead of 3 bigger meals. I seem to get it worse when I've eaten until I'm full.

Gaviscon is the only thing that works for me. Totally safe to take during pregnancy since it isn't actually absorbed by the body, it's a physical barrier to the acid and you just poop it out.

Tums are my best friend!  Water is like the worst thing you can drink for heartburn.  You want to drink bases like milk.

Heartburn is my new running symptom.  Every night for the past 3 weeks I have been suffering with heartburn.  It is horrible.  Sitting up and watching what I eat helps.  Sometimes tums help sometimes but I hate them so much.  They are disgusting.

I personally don't have heartburn, but I'm sorry yours is so bad. A friend of mine told me a teaspoon of plain mustard the condiment worked great for her. Hopefully you can find something that works for you!

I take ranitadine, I think it's zantac 75. My doc said I am ok to take up to 300 mg per day but 175 mg keeps the heartburn away all day. It has been my lifesaver this pregnancy.

Mine isn't too severe, but Tums help me. I've also found that I have to avoid anything with tomatoes like the plague. Salsa, tomato sauce, pizza.... NOT good.
