Added rice formula

Does anyone have good experiences with them?  I am thinking of trying it out to see if it helps with spitting up...the doc said to give it a shot.  Do I need to buy the y nipples with it??

My LO has problems with reflux and spitting up, but my doc prescribed prevacid instead.  I thought that was not good for babies until they were a little older, but I'm also not a doctor.


DX: DOR & Fragile X premutation carrier
2011: FSH 13.3 & E 99; AMH 0.54 ~ 2nd FSH 6.2 E 40's AFC: 8
BFP from Clomid/IUI ~ Pre-e and IUGR during pregnancy ~ LO born 9/4/12
Feb. 2013: AMH less than 0.16 (undetectable) ~ FSH 6.8 (normal)
What is going on with my body?

Do you mean adding rice cereal to the formula? Your post is confusing. I don't know how old your lo is, but everything I've read recommends not giving infants rice cereal before 4-6 months. I would ask your pedi WHY they recommend that.

Ah, I see. Well, I have no experience with that. But I hope your LO feels better soon! Also, try propping him or her up for 10-15 minutes after feeding, and making sure they burp well. That helps with spitting up sometimes, too.

Similac Spit-up is the only thing my son would keep down. Worked great for us

That is interesting...honestly, my LO has stopped spitting as much up since he got on prevacid, but it also may be because we switched him to alimentum formula.

DS is 8 wks and we just started him on rice cereal this morning. Our pedi. recommended it due to the reflux issue as well. From what I have read it's not recommended before 4 months unless for reflux issues. We'll see how it goes....

Our DD is also on Zantac and Enfamil A.R. formula and I'd recommend it. She used to spit up a ton and it's decreased tremendously since we switched formulas. It's still not perfect, but it's a lot better.

Our LO had the same problem and he hated the medicine the peds prescribed. I would continue to burping your LO more often. We usually burp our LO 3-4 times during feedings and afterwards just hold him and pat his back or tummy for another 10-15 minutes. Sometimes he will burp and pass gas the entire time and rest much better afterwards.

I guess I am a bad mom...I added rice to my son's bottle at about 6 weeks.  I havent noticed any damage to anything so far.  I didnt buy a special nipple--I took scissors and poked a wider hole thru one of the nipples we already had.  Just make sure you grab the "rice nipple" and not a normal nipple for the rice bottles and vice versa :)

My daughter was on 6 formulas before we tried Similac spit up. It worked great. I bought the Enfamil AR once cause the Similac was out of stock and it did not work as well she has reflux also.  Good luck  

Hypothyroid/Fibroids/Stage 4 Endometriosis

10/2010 Open myomectomy to remove 3 fibroids largest @ 8 inches. Stage 4 endometriosis and inoperable/blocked left tube.

3/2011 Laporoscopy/Hysteroscopy. 3 endometrioma cysts, hydrosalpinx, left tube and half of the left ovary removed.

5/2011 IUI #1 medicated w/injections, 1 follie = BFP!

6/2011 Blighted Ovum/ D&C

9/2011 IUI #2 medicated w/injections, 2 follies = BFP!

With my first DD we were on the verge of a breakdown because her reflux (despite being on meds) was so bad as an infant she was refusing to eat ANYTHING until we gave her Enfamil AR.  It was a savior for us and I can't say enough good things about it.  It is definitely thicker than other formulas so we noticed she took a little less in each bottle than other formulas but we were fine with that as long as she was eating something.  The spitting up didn't stop with this formula but it was significantly decreased and she was a MUCH happier baby and not in so much pain.  I would highly recommend it!  Also - if you call Enfamil and tell them you have a baby with bad reflux and want to try this formula they will send you a free small can of it in the mail.  Good luck!
