I'm pregnant but I haven't lost my identity.....

It might be petty but I am growing ever more irritated and want to vent. Certain people (more than one) have begun omitting the use of my actual name in conversations and have reverted to referring to me as "mama" (i.e. "How's mama doing?" "How's everything going mama?" "Would you like something to drink mama?) I find it a little insulting and a generally demeaning. I know it is going to get worse as time goes on and I really start popping. I shouldn't be so irritated by it but can't help but to scowl every time it happens? I really should just tell them that it is bothering me but not sure how to say it without sounding snappy (because again... I know it's petty.)

If a doctor or nurse refers to me as "mamma" I'm okay. But I work retail and a man who is probably 7 years older than me called me MOM when I came over to override my co-worker who was ringing him up! I wanted to eat his liver. I was so annoyed.

We know he won't live that down.

Megan, I hear you.  Are these the same people calling you "mama"?  Do you feel comfortable in joking back and saying my name is Megan, not mama?  ((Hugs))

I hear ya! I don't mind my co workers calling me 'mamma' every now and then, but my in laws, that's another story! As soon as we told them we were pregnant they started calling us mommy and daddy. I actually had to ask them to not call us that and they said 'Well, what should we call you?'. Umm, for the last 12 years that I've known you, my name has worked just fine TYVM!!  Sigh....hopefully they get it one of these days!

There's one lady (only one) that calls me mamacita, and it makes me want to throw her out a window.  Granted, pre-pregnancy she referred to me as chica which I hated just as bad.  IDK if it would make a difference with your coworkers, but can you just say, "I don't like being called that" ?  Unfortunately, in my situation, I could say it til I'm blue in the face and I'll still hear mamacita.

I'd politely tell them you'd prefer to be called by your name. After all, baby isn't even here (or talking) yet, and you'd like to get used to that title on your own time. Or something like that.

On another note, I wish people called me cute things. Everyone likes to pretend my pregnancy is a big, unspeakable secret. It's... weird.

I'm "little preggo" to our operations mgr at work, it doesn't bother me much but when the clients call me "mama" it's creepy.
