Is this too weird to use?

DH loves the name Hunter. I like it, but a year ago, my brother named his dog Hunter. We don't live in the same state and really only see each other every couple of months or on holidays.

Is it weird to still consider Hunter even though my brother named his dog this?

Yeah, it's not everyone's style. I've known a few growing up. Always liked the name.

I don't think it's that weird. It would be weirder if it was your dog or they lived next door. I don't mind Hunter and I wouldn't completely rule it out if you both like it.

Thanks. I'm one of those people that usually can't use a name if it's been used for a dog, but this is different for some reason. It's not high up on our list, but it is one of DH's favorites.

To me, it would be as weird as naming my kid Rex, Fido, or Rover.  But I know there are people who think of it primarily as a human name and think of it in the same vein as names like Dylan, Austin, Forrest, Gunner, Gunther, Wyatt, etc.

Also, think about what a Hunter actually is.  Would you be okay with that connotation?

I'm one of those people. lol And my family is full of hunters. I think that's more what's holding me back from completely loving it. An avid hunter names his son Hunter. haha Just a tad redneck, but DH loves it. It's like number 4 on our list, so there's a good chance it won't be used. I was just wondering if it was weird to consider the name of a dog for my child. lol

My cousin has a little boy named Hunter...I think it's a great name!! I wouldn't worry too much about it being your brother's dog's name.

Love the name and don't think its odd at all to use the name.  If it was your dog it would be.  Our dog has a really cute name that she came with and I would love to use it as a girls name but that would be really weird!

I like Hunter, but it's a little common.

I wouldn't worry about the dog thing. I know a lot of dogs named Molly and Chloe, and I adore those names for girls.

If I loved loved loved the name then I would probably do it, otherwise I would keep looking. My brother and SIL have a cat named Max...we like the name but not enough to deal with the cat comments so we kept looking.

Yep. I really don't like the name Hunter at all because of the meaning. The dog thing just seals the already sealed deal for me. The only Hunter I know is a cat.

I wouldn't rule out the name just because your brother has a dog named Hunter. It's a fine name.

Hunter is a guilty pleasure name of mine...I wouldn't be able to use it, but I just love when I meet boys with that name. YES use it, his dog will (no offense) die eventually, and is not too close to your son...I think it would work out just fine.
