Stupid Ute!

Well I had an appointment this morning to get the results of the ultrasound I got a few weeks ago. He origonally sent me in thinking that it was endometriosis. Good news is he said it doesn't look like endo to him. The bad news is that it showed that I either have a septate ute or a bicornuate ute. He is going to send me in for a laparoscopy to check for/treat and endo if there is any there,  and also a hysteroscopy to fix my ute.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these uterine deformities? And how about the recovery time?

My doc didn't give me any other information except that I will be contacted to set up the procedure.       Thanks.

Hi I found out in Sept that I have a bicornuate uterus after my HSG. I have since learned through research that this could actually be a separate and not bicornuate because its often miss diagnosed from an HSG. So now I'm waiting for a saline ultrasound to determine which I have. There is be a big difference because a BU can not be fixed via surgery but they can surgically remove the septum if you have a separate ute. This has all been very upsetting to me and I'm dying to just find out either way which one I have.

I hope they are able to surgically fix your septum. There are a few girls who have had the surgery on 3T so you should ask more about it there. Good luck!

I'm so sorry about the diagnosis and needing surgery. I have severe endo and a septum in my uterus. I just had a lap and hysteroscopy, along with surgery on my diaphragm and pancreas. I am still no where close to 100% but that is due to the extensive nature of my surgery. I would be much further along in my recovery if it was just the 2 procedures you are having done. If you have specific questions, feel free to ask and I will try to answer. Good luck!

I'm totally out of my element here, but isn't there further testing that can be done before a lap is needed to determine this? Cara might know more, looks like she is having additional testing done. I say this because my friend went to one doc who suspected either BU or Sep or whatever and was jumping into surgery. She got a second opinion and I believe an HSG and saline US and that doc said no need for surgery, she would be fine. She went on to get pregnant the next cycle and had a healthy baby girl in March. Just a thought I guess....but like I said, I this is all just hear say:)

Yes this happened to me... I wanted to get a IUD 2 years ago because the pill was making me sick. I complained about the horrible, debilitating cramps I get with AF so they sent me to get an U/S to r/o endo. The U/S tech told me I had a bicornuate uterus. Later when I went to get the results from the doctor she told me this is no way effects fertility and asked if I wanted to be referred to an OB/GYN. After my own research... um yes I did as I knew it could effect fertility. The OB/GYN told me it was not a bicornuate ute but rather a septated one and ordered an MRI to determine if the septum involved the uterine wall or not. She said if it involved the uterine wall she would not do surgery and said it will not effect fertility. If it was just a "piece of tissue hanging down" then she would remove it surgically. This is because when TTC a fertilized egg may implant on the septum and there would not be a blood supply to sustain it (if the septum did not involve the uterine wall). It turns out mine did involve the uterine wall, that it is basically a heart shaped uterus. No surgery for me! She also said it was a rather small septum.

I hope that helps!

I've already had the u/s done a few weeks ago. The report showed that it was one or the other, they just can't say 100% which one it is...

I should also say that it sounds like you need more testing before invasive measures. Get a second opinion too!

sounds like maybe an MRI would help based on PP responses? I think somehow they can tell without a lap. I guess I might get a second opinion if it were me.

I had several ultrasounds and was told I had a septate or bicornuate uterus by both the radiology doc and my OB/GYN. I was pretty freaked out about it because my OB/GYN referred me to a RE. RE ordered an HSG to see what we're dealing with. Turns out I have neither. My ute is normal. RE says she sees this quite often.

If I would have jumped to the lap, it would have been needless surgery.
