We got GOOD news!!

The hepatologist is a saint and I want to hug him. He will be writing a strongly worded letter to the RE about a) what he told us and b) his treatment of us. He said that what the RE told us was so far off the mark and so offensive that he needs to go back and read every single position paper written since 2000 on IVF and Hep C+ patients.

-DH's liver levels are nowhere near as high as the RE implied. They're high, and he has Hep C, but it is not anywhere NEAR the "you need interferon for 24 -48 weeks and your numbers are off the charts, you filthy drug abuser" stuff that the RE said/implied. The new doc drew a bunch of blood and DH has a liver ultrasound scheduled for next week, but barring any weirdness with either of those - we are good to proceed with IVF immediately.
-DH will need to go see the doc every six months, but barring anything weird with bloodwork, treatment is going to be postponed a couple years. There's a new drug w/ 95% success rates which only takes 12 weeks of pills to complete the entire cycle. It'll be on the market or more readily available in two years, so as long as DH's body doesn't show any signs of sickness before that, it's a better option to wait til that becomes the option. 
OH OH OH. AND (I am feeling vindicated here a bit). The hepatologist told us that the RE's first question to us after seeing DH's medical history should have been "Did you have any blood transfusions during your open heart surgery?" followed shortly by "Have you ever had an ID panel run before?". Apparently the ball was dropped in a big way.

I will be calling a new clinic first thing in the morning. DH asked the hepatologist for an RE recommendation and he said "Any fertility specialist worth their salt can treat you." Holy cow. I feel like I am breathing again.
TTC on and off since April 2007. IUI#1 (50mg Clomid + Trigger) 3/14. BFP 3/25 at 11dpo. No heartbeat at 8 weeks on 4/26, D&C 4/27. IUI #2 7/22 (50mg Clomid +Trigger)= CP. IUI #3 8/16 = BFN. IUI#4 9/14= BFN. IVF#1 started 10/31; cancelled 11/15. New clinic; 1st visit 12/26. IVF #1 (take 2) cancelled. IVF#1 (take 3)Feb. 2013! 2/9/13 ER = 25 eggs. 24 M/22F. 5dt (SET)2/14. 2/25= BFP! Beta 372!

DX: Infertile 6/11 Me: LPD, all other blood work clear. May/ 2013 Egg maturity and quality issues.. DH: low sperm motility,low count.
Met with RE start clomid + TI + IUI 5/12= IUI cancelled due to positive Cystic Fibrosis carrier test. DH tested Neg. for Cystic Fibrosis,
6/12 Clomid + TI +IUI=BFN 8/10 IVF consult.
IVF #1 Started BCP 9/2 Lupron 10/11 stims 10/27 ER 11/6!! 5 eggs retreived only 1 mature. FERT report shows none made it.Cancelled cycle.
IVF #2 BCP 11/18 Lupron 12/14
Stims start 12/29 ER 1/8 ET 1/11 put in 1 grade B and 1 grade C. Beta: 1/20=BFN
Second opinion at new clinic TBD
decided to stick with old clinic with new plan.
5/3 started metformin for IVF # 3 set to start in July!!!

I was in the process of replying to your pp when I saw this.  I'm SO happy for you!  I had a feeling that RE was totally off his rocker.  Any doctor, whether they treat Hep C or not should never make a pt feel the way yours did.  I hope you find a new one and definitely keep your H hepatologist!!  Good luck!

Ultrasound shows a miracle heartbeat right in the uterus where it belongs! Dr. says I can be cautiously optomistic!!! Hang in there baby!

As soon as I get all my records sent over to the new clinic, I will be leaving reviews everywhere. He pissed off the wrong woman.

I am SO glad to see this!!  You really needed some good news and in one way I'm glad you're RE is an idiot and was totally wrong.  Good luck finding another clinic and moving forward with IVF!

Me 37 MH 40 - TTC since June 2010 - dx with Severe MFI. Straight to IVF with ICSI. IVF #1 - ER 06/13/12 - 9 Eggs Retrieved - 4 ICSI'd - only 2 fert. 06/15/12 - 2DT - 3 cell & 6 cell with fragmentation. Beta 06/29/12 - IVF #1 = BFN. 07/20/12 - WTF Appt -Told by our RE to quit IVF. Second Opinion from RE is good. IVF#2 - November 2012. Estradiol Pills Started 11/6. Stims start 11/16. ER 11/26 - 7 eggs retrieved - all mature. 4 fertilized with ICSI. ET 11/29 Transferred 3 embryos. Beta is 12/10. 1st Beta 81 2nd Beta 160 and 3rd beta 360!!! I love this update! What a crazy ride! Glad you are getting great news! I have a long history of bad docs, including a gynecologist that told me to knock off worrying about getting prego for at least two years since that is how long it took her, to a psychologist that told me she is surprised I didn't kill my own family after hearing a few stories! You expect to get good info from a doc and it is not fun when you don't and it leaves you confused or worse angry. Good luck at the new office and upcoming IVF!

SO happy that you found a hepatologist worth their salt! you should never have been treated in this way.

Hopefully, you can find a new RE  and proceed with haste!
