Car seat suggestions

So we originally registered for the Britax Pavilion but will be picking a different car seat as it has been recalled.  The two we are looking at are the First Years TruFit and the Graco Smart Seat.  Anyone have experience with either of these and recommend one over the other?  Or any other suggestions?

It sounds like your looking into more like a convertible seat. They really are not ideal for the newborn phase. Also, the Smart Seat is a huge pain. If you are dead set on a convertible car seat then look into the Maxi Cosi Pria. It's the only real convertible seat that truly is rated for newborns. The rest say they go down to newborn size, but they don't really fit.

Personally, I would get an infant bucket seat and then go spend the money on a Diono Radian RXT when the kid outgrows the infant seat. This way you have the 2 seats you will need from birth until they are 120 lbs (RXT goes to a booster). For infant seats I like Graco Snugrides (the regular 22lb one) or a Maxi Cosi Mico (which is what we have until DS can fit into his RXT). Both will be perfect from the newborn to 6 month phase when they will transition into a convertible.

The recall only has to do with the harness pads and you can get a free replacement set....did you read the recall? Nothing else is wrong with the seat. Here is the recall notice: http://www.britaxusa.com/uploads/advisory/notice/28-0ea.pdf

We LOVE our britax but we have one for the older ages!  We are going with the Chicco Keyfit 30 also.  It's orange and it's super cute and is a top rated carseat.  Once she is old enough to go front facing, she will get a Britex just like her brother and sister.

We bought the Gracco Smart seat.  My husband already installed it and took it out of his car to make sure it was going to fit.  It was really easy to install and the functions were very easy to use.  I love that it is made for 5-100 lbs so it will be the only seat he needs for his car.

It sounds like your looking into more like a convertible seat. They really are not ideal for the newborn phase.

They are fine for the newborn phase, people have different needs etc.

I never used the bucket seat as a bucket seat, I never took it out of the car. If I didn't already have it I'd not use one this time around, if we had an accident and needed to replace the seat I'd get the closest thing to a convertible seat that is available here.

I second the Diono RadianRXT if you are looking at convertible seats.

This!  Can't imagine doing without the infant seat in the beginning.  For a convertible we have the Britax Marathon and love it.
