Binkies and bottles

When are you planning on taking the bottle and binkie away? Im thinking about taking my DDs binkie away she only uses it for naps and at bed time...My mother thinks its too early but I think earlier might be better..she is 10 1/2 months right now.

I'm not going to worry about it any time soon. I have heard doctors say they should be weaned from pacifiers and bottles by age one, but I have also heard they can have it for a few years before it starts to mess with their teeth. My plan is by age 2. My son uses pacis in the car, for sleep and he'll stick one in his mouth when he is playing if he find one laying around. They also help him sleep through the night since he'll find one in his crib to help him go back to sleep.

As far as bottles go, he loves to drink out of straw sippy cups as well, so we will start to use them a bit more when he switches to milk instead of formula. He so far has let me know when he is ready for new things (such as sleeping in his crib, needing more solid foods, etc) so I plan to go by his lead as long as its not around 3 or 4 years Big Smile

Well, DS never took a pacifier but he did have his bottle until 3 with no concerns from his pedi.  If we follow that, I'm not worrying abotu it any time soon.  I'm especially not worrying about the pacifier anytime soon.  I mean, if she only has it for naps and bedtime I don't see the big deal and I'm fine with dd keeping it.  Really, even if dd took hers in public I wouldn't start trying until 2 and even then probably not care.  They eventually with get rid of things on their own.

That said, we have been trying to switch her to a sippy instead of a bottle at bedtime, but it's just a matter of her gettign used to it.  It's faster than the bottle and she can't seem to relax.  DS wouldn't even touch milk from a sippy at that point.
