Fear of a miscarriage...what do to in between appointments?

Had first US at 8 weeks and baby was there and heard a 160 hb. Next appointment isnt for another 2 weeks. No symptoms other than sore boobies. All I can think about is If the baby is still there, growing and all is ok and that is ALL that i think and worry about. Definitely not sleeping well....What can I do???

Take more HPTs to confirm its still there? invest in a fetal doppler?

Hpts won't confirm that the baby is alive. So if that sounds harsh. 2 wks is nothing. If you want a Doppler then get one however it may be hard to hear the heartbeat. Not u heard f to hear early I heard DDs at 6wks 6days I think. Good luck. Sleeping what's that?

This is all true.  You can get a doppler but you have to be honest with yourself - if you can't find the HB will you be MORE stressed?  Because it's common to not be able to find it.  My own doctor couldn't find my son's until 14 weeks.  We just have to trust that things are fine until proven otherwise.  There's really nothing else we CAN do.

I agree. A Doppler would freak me out more. And don't waste your money on a HPT. Your levels would remain high even after a m/c. It took nearly a month for my levels to go down. You saw a heartbeat, that's a good sign. All you can do at this point is look at the little things as milestones and trust that everything will be ok.

I'm sorry you are feeling so apprehensive.

The only thing you can do between appointments is live your life. Eat well, get an exercise routine in place, and drink a good amount of water. If you feel comfortable renting or buying a doppler then you can. Personally, it would make me a wreck if I couldn't find my baby's hb or something at home. For some it is reassuring, but for me personally I like to save that for the doctor's office.

Please try not to worry yourself sick.

I was this way with my frist pregnancy.  Just keep telling yourself, you are pregnant until someone tells you otherwise.  You are pregnant!  Seeing the heartbeat is an awesome sign and 170 is great.  I know your risk goes down after you see the heart beat.  Enjoy being pregnant.

If your anxiety is really bad and you are having trouble sleeping find a good therapist, really.  Mine has been amazing!

Sleep, eat, go to the bathroom (lots), maybe cook and do some laundry but those last two might be  a stretch

Oh and breathing is useful too I guess  :D

After you get a heart beat, the odds go way down. There's no point wasting money on pregnancy tests and dopplers. It will just aggravate your worry more than relieve it, because you'll grow *dependent* on those for security.

Just relax and let go of the worry. It's not helpful to anybody, and you don't want to end up a Helicopter Mom anyways whose kids are too fearful to step outside or look for a job. I apologize. I don't mean to be insulting, but it can happen if you let it get too much out of control.

I disagree (well, not about the HPT part).  Dopplers are definitely a personal decision, but a lot of ladies do find them helpful and comforting.  There was a recent discussion about them on PgAL and many, many women had purchased them for their pregnancies.

I'm sorry that you're worried, OP.  I'm worried too and I'm not sure when/if it's going to get better  I just try to take it one day at a time and do the best I can.

StarshineR --- the fact that I'm worried about this pregnancy won't make me a "helicopter mom."  Where do you come up with this stuff?  Oh, and telling people to "relax and let go of the worry" is condescending.

nola, I'm not getting into a lame internet argument. This is my last word and I'm done with this thread. But, guess what? I *am there with the OP right now*. I'm not condescending to her or anyone else at all, because I am living that  reality. I was *sick* with worry and stress and even crying some nights and not being able to sleep just like the OP, until I dropped it. I know it is mostly beyond my control if something happens, so worrying does *nothing*. If you still see me as being condescending, then kindly, that is not my problem.

So, you can think what you like, but unless the anxiety is completely selfish, then yes, it *can* indicate a tendency towards being a helicopter Mom. If you're worried about your baby now, how worried will you be when the child is born?

Life is filled with *risk*. Look around if you don't believe me. There are lots of reasons to be anxious and to worry, and not just in pregnancy.

OP, this thread isn't about me, but you. Use your own judgment and make your own decisions. I don't care. Was just trying to help. Take care and I really hope you feel better. It really sucks to live with this fear.

I am stuck at worrying about your pregnancy or miscarriage will make you a helicopter parent later. What? How in the world do you come to this conclusion?

lol that having anxiety probably makes you a helicopter mom. I have a diagnosed anxiety disorder, and I find that kind of thinking offensive and, quite frankly, ignorant.

I get what you're saying about trying to let go of the worry, but the rest ... I'm not going to touch that.
