In need of reassurance, not a great 12 week appt.

Well I went to my twelve week appointment today and both nurse and doctor each tried for a good half hour and couldn't find the HB on doppler and now I'm terrified. Everything else checked out great (blood, urine, measuring, etc.) and they could hear the placenta and umbilical chord but no heartbeat. They're going to call me by the end of the day to tell me when I have an ultrasound appointment to make sure everything is ok (I have to be sent 3 hours away to get it done). So now I get to wait, I feel like I'm going to end up spending the day in tears :(

Easier said than done but try not to worry!  With my son they could never find his HB with a doppler until 14 weeks.  GL!

This happened at my appt last week. I had to wait an agonizing 3 hours for an ultrasound but everything was just fine on the U/S. Baby was just hiding in the back of my ute and a bit harder to find. Fingers crossed for you.

BFP 6/9/2011, due Valentine's day 2012! M/C @ 6 weeks. Miss you sweet tart.

My baby is very active, and during my 12 week it took them about 20 mins to find the heartbeat because baby kept on moving. You might have an anterior placenta as well, and that might be the reason you cant hear it. I've seen this post many times on TB, some women cant hear it until 16-18 weeks. Just be patient.. your baby is still pretty small. I wouldn't worry, and just relax until your u/s.

Try not to stress too much. A lot of people on here have had this problem and had to go for an u/s which turned out just fine. Good luck!

I wasn't able to hear my first two on the doppler until 14 weeks. The baby is still very small and his or her position and the location of your placenta can prevent you for hearing it this early.

I'm sorry you are going through this. It stinks that the office doesn't have an ultrasound to do a quick scan right then. That wait would be awful. You are in my T and P. I'll be checking for an update. FX that baby was just hiding from the Doppler!

DD used to run from the Doppler. The midwife always had to chase her down until she was big enough that she didn't have a lot of room. I hope your little nugget is just being shy.

I hope you get an answer soon.   And to be 3hrs away from an U/S location is really crazy.   I can't imagine that.  Can they send you to the hospital or something then for the u/s?  Sorry a 3hr is not acceptable to me at all.

I live in the subarctic of james bay right now so the fact that I can get one as close as 3 hours just the next community over is a miracle. I live a 12 hour drive from anything the qualifies as a city.

Thank you so much everyone for all your support. I just got the call that they are going to squeeze me in today as fast as I can drive there so I'm hoping in the car now and I'll let you know how it goes.

I just wanted to say good luck, and I hope everything goes well with your ultrasound. Try to relax as best as possible, it's common not to be able to hear baby on the Doppler before 14 weeks. I'll be looking forward to a great update from you.

Wow ... I think she is saying that the closest hospital to her is three hours away, because where she lives near James Bay (in Canada) doesn't have anything close by. So she's going to the closest community that has an ultrasound machine available. Your response was really snide, and kind of surprised me when she's facing such a nervous time.

Hang in there. I've known people to not be able to hear the heartbeat on doppler until their 14th week! The little one was probably hiding! ((hugs))

Married my BEST FRIEND on December 1, 2007. Started TTC in March 2008. Found out we were expecting our first child in October 2008 - but had a m/c in December 2008 - resulting in a d&e. Met with a RE in May 2009 and set a plan - but conceived unexpectedly on our own! Our precious little Sophia was born on February 9, 2010! Lilypie Third Birthday tickers

I know it is impossible not to worry, but try not to worry. With DS, they could not get a heartbeat on the doppler at 15 weeks. I was able to get an ultrasound right away. Everything was fine. The tech told me the baby is so small and since he was moving all around, it can be difficult to find the heartbeat with a doppler. I hope you get your ultrasound quickly.

I just want to say that at my last appointment (11 weeks) they could not find baby's HB with the doppler either. My uterus is tilted, which affects that. Thankfully they fit me in with the u/s tech right away and everything was great. Try not to worry!

Try not to stress. Corri was a master doppler evader and I also had an anterior placenta, making it impossible to hear the heartbeat until later in my pregnancy...your LO is likely just swimming around and evading. Good luck!
