Announcing at Thanksgiving?

Hi! I'm not quite 2nd tri yet, still have a week to go but I figured there would probably be more announcement ready ladies over here than on 1st tri.

If you're announcing tomorrow... how are you doing it? We had thought about getting DD#1 a onesie saying she was a big sister, but we weren't able to order it in time. So now I guess we'll just stand up and announce it after dinner... how are you going about it/phrasing it etc.? I guess I'm really nervous, only a handful of people know so far and I'm not really someone who likes the attention all on them (big reason why we were going to use DD's shirt lol). Any ideas?

I can honestly say that revealing on a major holiday will definately be screaming attention to the mother to be. I am the same way. I hate people staring at me and gawking over me, so I actually took my family one by one at a get together and told them individually. It worked well as I got thorugh my entire family and not too much attention. Another recommendation would be to incorporate it into the dinner toast or prayer if either happens at your dinner.

I'm not big on the attention either. We basically had to reveal to our friends at a big party because I wasn't drinking. So I told a few early in the evening and they did all the rest of the work for me. I didn't have to tell anyone else and all our friends knew pretty much as soon as they walked in the door. lol

We're thinking of gender-revealing on Christmas.. but I'm not sure DH's family can handle waiting that long (we find out next week).

Since I'm not big on attention either, I've never done anything other than say, "we've got some exciting news...I'm pregnant!"  If I were doing it on Thanksgiving, I would wait until dessert.

If you dont want a bunch of attention on you, dont make it some big announcement. Just show up for Thanksgiving dinner and tell people as you see them.  I am not big on attention either, and the thought of standing up after dinner and telling a table full of people makes my skin crawl.

I like the idea of pulling people aside seperately.Unfortunately both dinners are at 2 very small houses where everyone stays in the kitchen or dinning room... We're planning on getting to both places a bit earlier then scheduled, both are at our grandparents homes and we would like to tell them first before everyone gets there. Maybe I can have my grandparents spread the news... I hadn't thought about that either! It's my maternal side that has me the most nervous, a few of my older aunts and uncles may not be so keen on the idea of 2 so close together... they are still getting over the idea that we aren't rushing to the alter lol

lurker here...

why not go get a plain white onesie or t-shirt, some colored sharpies, and make your own big sister shirt?  you get your original plan at a fraction of the cost and divert the attention to your DD.  a win/win/win if you ask me.

DH unexpectedly outed us during Thanksgiving with our last one by putting a double serving of everything onto my plate and insisting I need to eat it all because "The baby needs turkey and stuffing to grow big and strong!"

I don't like the attention on me either, I am planning on telling my extended family tomorrow but have no set plan.  I picture my cousin getting me wine the second I walk in the door, me turning it down and then just telling and the word will spread throughout the house.  I am hoping it is no frills just like congrats, awesome, some hugs and we can move on haha.  I really like the idea of you making a onesie for your DD.  Get some puffy paint and a white onesie.  You may even be able to find something to iron on to it at Michaels.

Its only my Mom, sister and brother with me this Thanksgiving soI was gonna do my best Molly Ringwald and say, "I'm pregnant, can you please pass the turnips?" but I think I am the only one in my family that would get the reference to the movie "For Keeps"...My mother has been harassing me for years about why I won't have kids (it wasn't by choice, but she didn't understand that) so I think I may use the opportunity to take her aside and tell her since she sometimes can be, well harsh. (When I told her I got engaged, she responded, "its about time".)

Regardless of how you tell people, you will still have the attention on you. At dinner, just say “So, I’m pregnant.” The reactions are priceless. This way, you get all of the attention off you all at once, rather than telling people 1 by 1 all day.

Also, I bet you could just get lucky finding one at Babies R Us.  I was just there the other day in the boys section and definitely saw a little brother shirt, so I wouldn't be surprised.

I can totally relate to not wanting extra attention, but honestly, I always just tell myself to suck it up and share.  Everyone is happy for you, it all comes from a good place and it'll be over before you know it. :)  Good luck!

I'd rather tell everyone at once rather than having a ton if individual conversations. Do you guys go around and say what you're thankful for? You could say for your DD and the baby to be. Also, if you can go up tonight, Old Navy has some cute Big Sis tshirts. How old is your DD?

This may be silly, but if you are typically someone who drinks at the holidays, maybe you could tape a note to your glass saying something like "nope, not drinking... wink wink"
