What are you drinking?

Silly question, I know.  I've been addicted to diet sodas for so long but I don't think they are a good idea for baby.  I've been drinking tons of water, but what else can I drink that is yummy but not bad?  Water is getting old. Thanks ladies.

Yes Mmmmm, cucumber water is the best! You can also mix fruit juice with club soda for a fizzy drink that's healthier than soda (and with fewer calories & sugar than straight juice).

It's good to try and avoid the diet sodas.  Artificial sweeteners are horrible.  I put lemon in my water and I also put 100% cranberry juice.  Just to clarify, its not the cocktail juice like Oceanspray, its usually found with the organic stuff.  It has next to no sugar.  It's pretty pricey, like $8 a bottle but if you just put a splash in your water, a bottle will last you a month and its really good for you.  Its tart, but I found that it helped with the nausea of 1st tri anyway.

Occasionally, I'll allow myself a Dr. Pepper. However, my liquid diet mostly consists of water, milk, Ovaltine (when I need my chocolate fix), 100% cranberry juice, & low sodium V8.

I mix juice with my water: white grape, cranberry, apple. I drink orange juice too. Also mixed Gatorade with water because I have been sick and trying to keep hydrated.

Saccharin is the only artificial sweetener that crosses the placenta and might affect your baby. Other sweeteners, such as aspartame which I think is what's in diet coke? are okay.

Vodka.

(kidding)

My favorite pregnancy-friendly beverage is to mix 1/4 juice with 3/4 plain seltzer.  It's kind of like soda, but without the majority of the sugar and/or artificial sweetener.  I've also been drinking a lot of milk.

I may start mixing apple juice and water. Water kinda make me nauseated lately.

Funny, I've been drinking cranberry pom juice. And I usually cannot stand the taste of cranberry juice! Besides that green tea, the occasional soda to settle my stomach. But water just tastes awful right now.

I agree with everyone saying club soda with juice. Make sure you get the juice in the organic/healthy living aisle because those are more concentrated and the flavor won't get diluted when you add club soda. You'll still get the bubbly sweet fix that you could get from diet soda, but with vitamins and maybe even some anti-oxidants.

Aspartame is never okay, not for anyone. I always check labels to avoid it, you might as well drink poison. It can lower the seizure threshold, cause cancer and it crosses the brain blood barrier. The scary thing is when you look at candy, diet drinks and most of the gum nowadays - all full of aspartame. I miss the days of real sugar! It's actually been banned in many parts of Europe. If you want more information on the dangers of aspartame you can google an in depth documentary called "Sweet Misery A Poisoned World." Don't take my word for it, listen to actual neurosurgeons and other medical experts tell you the shocking truth about this common artificial sweetener. Here's a little tidbit of information that should arouse your mama bear instincts if nothing else:

Phenylalanine is a hidden danger to anyone consuming aspartame. Most consumers don't know that too much Phenylalanine is a neurotoxin and excites the neurons in the brain to the point of cellular death.

ADD/ADHD, emotional and behavioral disorders can all be triggered by too much Phenylalanine in the daily diet. If you are one in ten thousand people who are PKU or carry the PKU gene, Phenylalanine can cause irreversible brain damage and death, especially when used in high quantities or during pregnancy. Phenylalanine is 50% of aspartame, and to the degree humans consume diet products, Phenylalanine levels are reaching a dangerous peak

You are correct about phenylalanine!
A VERY popular sugar free gum use to actually have a warning that said "this product contains phenylalanine which is known to cause cancer in laboratory animals"
The warning is no longer there. Now it just says something like "caution contains phenylalanine".
I guess by law they dont have to include the cancer bit anymore.
But real sugar beats fake sugar any day of the week. Even "light" products contain it. Like lite and fit yogurts.
I dont trust any fake things. Natural is best in my opinion.
Thats why i get so annoyed when the mayor wants to make an obese tax on real soda! Im not obese and you cant force me to drink that fake cancer causing sugar! Why should i be taxed!? Fyi Im in NY.
Obviously everyone can eat what they want and what they feel is safe for them but i prefer natural for myself.

Water, cranberry juice, milk, and decaf tea.

Odd that some of you say that water tastes gross. Do you have city water? Maybe you need to invest in a filter or something, it might be the chlorine or fluoride that is bothering you

I've seen that warning label on a lot of gum's and candy's, as well! It's just plain disturbing!! I remember when someone first told me about aspartame and how bad it was I was like "Pshhhh yeah right!" But when I started researching, really researching, I was so appalled that our governments would allow this dangerous product into our food supply! Like WTH??  The thing that really burns me up is when it's clearly aimed at diabetics, children and people who are just trying to watch their weight - what a slap in the face to these people! I agree that everyone can do and eat whatever they want, it's not my place to judge them. I applaud you for sticking to natural products! I try my best to do that, as well. I'll just be happy if our little convo here encourages other people to do a little research of their own when it comes to artificial sweeteners, especially aspartame. :(
