Stressed over DD sleeping in swing.....

Hi Ladies,

DD got a terrible cold last weekend and teh congestion and coughing is so bad that she can't sleep in her crib! Last night and for todays naps she has been sleeping in the swing (while it is on swinging).  I am one of those moms who stresses over everything so of course this is stressing me out becasue she was doing so well in her crib.  Now I feel like it will be like starting all over again.  I know her well being is most importnat, I just wich this cold would pass already this is Day 4!

Don't sweat it; she may go back to the crib just fine. It's far too early to create habits.

DD1 slept in a swing (while it was swinging) for the better part of 6 months....she had terrible reflux.  She was fine when we put her in the crib.

It's really not a big deal. It's more important to get them the rest they need. Colds last 10-14 days, so I'd be prepared for more congestion. DD2 slept in a swing or bouncy for almost 9 months. She sleeps in a crib fine.

I was stressed about the same thing - so I'm glad you posted this - it is good to hear from others about this.

My LO pretty much naps in his swing all day but then at night he is in his crib and I was afraid that he would one day not want to sleep in his crib because he would be so use to sleeping in his swing but every night he falls asleep just fine in his crib - so - so far so good.

But I've heard all the same things - he is too young to create habits and he needs his sleep so do what you can to make sure he gets it.

My first DD had reflux and slept in her swing until she was 10 months old and literally transitioned herself to crib. I was super stressed as a ftm at the time and had been in the process of transitioning her to crib for naps since she was 5-6 months old. At 10 months she started fussing when put in her swing and as just happier in the crib. I wish I hadn't spent so much time stressing over something that worked itself out in the end. My advice is do what makes baby happy and gets you both sleep! Transitioning will happen eventually.
