Braxton hicks? Sore top of belly?

I'm not quite sure what I'm feeling here :. My belly was feeling really hard and it was a little painful. This was off and on for a good 30 minutes. Then it stopped when I sat down but now when I cough I have a little cold, the top of my belly feels sore, almost like it's bruised.

Just looking for thoughts from anyone who has experienced something similar. Thanks!!

That definitely sounds like BH.  As for the pain, could it be the baby kicking you? My LO was kicking the crap out of my entire rib cage up until about two weeks ago when I finally dropped, but it definitely left me feeling bruised.

ETA: Ditto Runaway.  My LO has been cooling his or her heels on my ribs for the last few hours and it effing KILLS.  I've been trying to get him or her to work their way down by nudging a little on the little foot or whatever, but so far, no luck :-/

Sometimes when baby kicks one spot a bunch, it gets sore. But I've noticed when s/he is in an awkward position and pushing a head/leg/arm/knee/elbow/butt against the top of my uterus for an extended period of time, it can get really sore, especially to touch. I've noticed if I gently massage the tiny body part (seems like it's usually a head), s/he will re-situate and give me some relief.

I've heard there are certain things you can do to get LO to change positions, but so far the massage thing (and sometimes slightly changing my position) works for me.

The bruising is probably from baby kicks.  The upper front of my stomach is bluish from his activity.  And yeah, sounds like BH, especially the stopping when you sit down part.

I just started experiencing the pain associated with the baby's feet pushing into my rib cage and kicking me. It still feels bruised and hurts when I cough. If your stomach is almost kind of peaking when it is hard (should seem to push up more down the center of your stomach), and the pain radiates from the top down, that can be a sign of braxton hicks or regular contractions depending upon the duration. Some women also experience muscle strain from the weight of the baby as well. My OB said to call if I experienced it either way because for new mom's sometimes it can be confusing and you don't always know what is going on. It is better to be safe and just let them know. :-) Good luck!
