I think I've lost my mind (hormones?).

I'm 36 weeks today and we are expecting our first baby.  I think I've lost my mind or I'm having hormone issues or maybe I am just a hateful person.  Thanksgiving is over.  I was suppose to cook today for my husband's family but I was put on bed rest yesterday from having contractions 2 mins apart and I was given IV fluids and sent home.  We all chipped in and got dinner on the table.  It was a stressful day.  Anyways, my husband's brother, his wife, and their 1 1/2 year old came over.  They flew in and they had planned to stay at our house but then decided to stay in a hotel due to the fact that I was on bed rest and they didn't want their toddler to stress us out and that was really nice of them.  Well first they ask to use our high chair which was still in the box, then they use our crib with the freshly washed sheet, then they use our pack n' play, changing table, and almost our diaper dekor until I mentioned just using a grocery bag and throwing it away bc it was only one diaper.  I didn't let on that I was super annoyed but I did vent to my husband.  I don't know why it bothered me so much but I really wanted our baby's things to be used by our baby first.  His parents also opened her bottle brush without asking and used the foot rest as foot stool which really aren't big deals.  I just worked so hard to make her nursery perfect and maybe I'm too controlling.  Once she gets here everything is fair game for anybody but I just feel like everything is tainted or something.  I don't know why this upsets me so.  I'm sure this is hormones.  I'm getting annoyed and upset over nothing I'm sure.  I just really needed to vent.  Has anyone else felt this way?

I think you're right about the hormones, BUT I'd be annoyed, too. Like you said, everything is fair game after she gets here, but you were saving them. New, unused baby things for your new, "unused" baby. They shouldn't have assumed they could use your baby stuff since you technically don't have a baby yet. They should have definitely asked you before flying down without their own baby gear.

Then again, I'm a FTM, too, and ST plus moms always say we're uptight lol : X

I'm a STM, and yeah FTM's are more uptight, but you know what? That's ok!

Having a first baby is a really exciting time. It doesn't mean that subsequent babies aren't also exciting, but the newness and unknown quantity of becoming a Mum are really special. You will never get this time back. 

Other people should be more respectful of your things, partly because they're YOUR things, and partly because they should remember  what it's like to want everything to be perfect your LO.

Once your LO is here, none of this will matter to you, but I completely get why it matters now.

Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly!

I'm a STM and it totally annoyed me just reading your story. You should have said no. I couldn't imagine opening up my LO things before she gets here. Sorry some ppl are so insensitive.

I agree with PP, you should have told them no. If you have a kid, you need to travel with everything that kid needs and not expect others to cover it for you. I'd be ticked if someone used LO's stuff before he got here. I'm also a STM.

I'd be crazy over that stuff.  Seriously.  Maybe it is my slight OCD but I wouldn't have allowed any of that!  I'd have made my DH (who feels the same as me) speak up and say that the baby gets to use everything first so the relatives would have to pretend they were at a house that didn't have all that stuff!  Can't blame you.  What's done is done.  Take a deep breath, rewash/clean everything and you'll feel better.

I'm a FTM and I would feel the same way. You have that set up and prepared for your LO's arrival. I agree with the PP that said they should travel with what they need. For them to use your high chair that was still in the box really would have bothered me. After your LO's arrival, I would probably feel differently, but before, I think that's just inconsiderate.

Thank you for your great advice.  I need to do exactly that!  I need to breathe and just attempt to start fresh!  I'm also OCD and that is definitely one of the reasons I feel this way.  I will definitely rewash and clean everything.  I also plan to go buy a new bottle brush. :/  I think I will feel better once I have organized things back to almost the way they were!

I'd totally be annoyed, even as a STM. Who doesn't travel with the things you need for you child? Or at least plan/ask ahead to have those things covered?

I am a stm, and that would have annoyed the crap out of me. I couldn't imagine someone just assuming they can use dd's stuff, who is almost 2.
