Tummy time?

My one month old has been on her tummy a couple of times on her play mate.  I did so because she is starting to get pretty strong with her neck while burping.  My friend, whose son is 9 days younger pretty much told me I was a horrible person for doing this because she felt my LO was too young.  I asked my pedi when to introduce and he said when I felt comfortable doing so.  We have only done it twice in the past week and other than burping on the shoulder she has never been on her tummy on the play mat before this week.  Am I wrong?  When did you first introduce tummy time with your LO?

We were doing tummy time at 1 week old at least once a day. I would say not only are you fine but go ahead and do tummy time often!

Harsh friend! I would totally ignore her. Moms have a way off knowing when babes are ready for things. Go with your pediatric and when you feel comfortable. I have been doing a few minutes a day since my lo was 2 weeks. I was too scared to do sooner but she was more than ready.

At Alice's one week check up, pedi said tummy time was fine at any point. She also said most babies prefer to be on your chest inatead of a mat and will push up sooner to look at a face rather than a toy.

Pretty much this. DD already pushes up on our chest and looks around for a few seconds and flips her head from side to side while on a mat. She gets a few minutes a few times a day (on the floor, I'm always putting her on my chest) and will get more and more now.

My pedi recommended 15 minutes a day of tummy time when DS was only 9 days old. He hasn't worked up to that long but he is able to do it for a few minutes.

We just started tummy time w/DS yesterday - he is 16days old now.  We got out the activity gym and puts him on his tummy for a few minutes a day.  He seems to enjoy it and he's able to lift his head up and pushes himself up w/his arms for short periods of time.  The rest of the gym time he's spent lying on his back.
