Theme/colors to tone down very pink nursery?

We have a DD on the way, and being our second, have kind of lagged in the nursery prep.  However, we did paint her room and the pink that I thought would be "barely pink" turned out to be "very pink."  It's a decent sized room so it's just, well...a ton of pink.

I didn't pick out a theme or anything yet (it doesn't need to be ready by her arrival).  I was considering owls, but the decor I've seen and liked for that also has a lot of pink and might be overkill.

Does anyone have any ideas on a theme I can put in there that doesn't involve much pink (bedding, some pictures, maybe a wall decal etc.) but will look good with pink walls?

Thanks!

I did for my dd butterflies. She loves it. I added aqua as the second color.we found rugs with butterflies on them from Home Depot with aqua and pink. Also I added mirror butterflies on her wall to reflect the light. Also I got butterflies from Target as wall decor for 5-6 bucks to add on the wall. They are multi color.

All this will break the pink a bit. Basically pick another color and added anywhere you can.

Good Luck

What about something like trees, gardens, etc?  You could put a tree decal on the wall.

We did pink for DD's nursery, and mixed it with dark brown(mostly the furniture), cream, and silver(mostly accents).  We actually did 3 different shades of pink, and it turned out not too pink.

If your walls are already solid pink, I would pick bedding that is either an accent color you want to add into the pink OR bedding that only has very little pink in it,  Same with pictures and anything else.

Maybe repaint one wall?  Or do a fake chair rail, and repaint the top (or bottom) half in a different color to break up all the pink?

Or keep the walls, and get a gray area rug, and white/gray sheets/bedding/accents.  Or browns would look nice too and tone it down a bit to neutralize.

I think white or gray look really nice with pink! I like pp's idea of butterflies. I really like the website pinterest.com for inspiration. You can do a search for pink baby room or something like that. It is free to join. here is a cute idea http://projectnursery.com/projects/nicolettespinknursery/

I have a DD on the way as well and am doing her nursery in pink/white/grey. I'm using grey/white chevron with the pink/grey zoology print for custom bedding. It's got a modern baby feel.

When we first painted DD's nursery it looked "very yellow" but once we got al the furnishing in, it really turned out nicely and the yellow looks much softer now.

A few suggestions to tone down the pink:

-  don't add too much more pink in the accents;)
-  To one of the more prominent walls, put up big white picture frames, with white mats with either photos or cut of pictures from a story book.
-  White curtains to frame the window
-  White furniture?

What about something like the PBK Brooke bedding? Has a little pink to tie in the paint color, but it's mostly greens, blues, and white. I think it would tone down the pink nicely. It has trees, birds, and flowers on it, which you could easily find decals to match if you wanted. They have some coordinating owl pillows that are super cute too! I think if you used bedding like this and pulled other colors from the bedding for accessories instead of pink, it will balance things out a bit. HTH!

A nice wallpaper or wallpaper border could tone down the room! I think that this is a relatively inexpensive and easy option compared to completely redoing the nursery. If this is something you may want to do, try contacting some wallpaper retailers to ask questions and plan the room. I use Brewster Home Fashions anytime I need to find a new wallpaper print. A nice green or gray border would look great!
