Fun old wives tales!

Hey ladies, 

I've always lurked on the boards but don't do much posting myself. So, that being said, hello everyone and a long overdue congrats on being pregnant!!!!  

I thought it'd be fun to share some old wives tales people have told you about pregnancy.. gender, signs of labor, etc.

My neighbor seen me a couple weeks ago and said, oh you must be having a girl because your lips are puffy.  lol, I said, well I'm 37 weeks pregnant, everything on me is puffy!

Hehe! That was a good response : I was told I was having a boy, which I am, cause it looks like I'm smuggling a basketball under my shirt.

Well, I heard a new one the other day.  "You don't look pregnant from behind, so you're having a boy."  I take it as a compliment, but not sure it means much about my baby!

My aunt has tons of 'em, but I think she made up half of them . For example, eating a tablespon of sugar, then immediately chugging a glass of pineapple juice will for suuurrreeee make you go into labor, to which I responded, "whaaaa thaaaaa?!"

A lady behind me in line at Best Buy said, "Oh, you're having a boy!"  She seemed very sure of herself but didn't tell me why.  I corrected her that no, it was indeed a girl.  Ultrasounds these days are very detailed.

Also, one of my coworkers said it was bad luck to build the crib before the baby was born.  That one I had definitely never heard of before.

I had a lady at work tell me not to reach for something on a shelf b/c if I raised my arms over my head, the cord could get tangled around the baby's neck. Um, OK but then how am I supposed to get dressed or do my hair?

My in-laws insist that if you are lazy during pregnancy your baby will be crippled because it didn't get enough movement and it's limbs get stuck. I tried to explain about people on bed rest, how the baby is an entirely separate person and in a uterus... They think I'm the crazy one now. smh.

My mom said I am "not very pretty right now" so I must be having a girl who is stealing my beauty". She also relies on the heartrate.

Uh oh. I think were all screwed on the crib one, haha. I've only been told about the heart rate being higher for a girl. Which is true for me. Also that if you break out during pregnancy its a girl. Which is also true for me, unfortunately.

I have had horrible heartburn, whuch means the baby is supponed to have lots of hair. The funny thing is during the last u/s the tech pointed out how much hair he already has.....she joked he was going to need a haircut when he came out :)

I've heard that if you have a lot of indigestion/heart burn it means your baby will come out with a lot of hair.... If that's the case my LO is going to be one hairy little monster!
