So today I hit the "special" 24 week mark, AKA viability day. A small part of me is breathing a sigh of relief, a small part of me is suddenly scared as I think "Oh my gosh, I'm going to have a BABY!", but mostly, I feel very appreciative for the gift of life.
My boyfriend, love of my life (at least my pregnancy hormones let me call him that today), is 30 years old. And it was at 24 weeks pregnant that his mother gave birth. He was given less than a 5% chance to survive and here we are - having our first baby. The only reminders of his harrowing birth are the scars from all the life saving tubing and monitors attached to his tiny one pound body when born.
Hitting 24 weeks just opens my eyes to how miraculous life is, and how lucky I am to live in an age where a 24 week old baby has a chance at survival.
Over the weekend I tripped and fell. Ended up calling my OBs office just to touch base with them over the incident. Doctor told me to go to L&D for a non stress test and ultrasound just to ensure there was no placental or bag tears. It actually turned out to be a very good and therapeutic experience. My BF had sports conversations with our daughter. The more he talked to her, the more she'd flip around (which we could hear on the monitor). And he actually felt her kick.
God bless everyone, their families, and H&H 9 months (or remaining of them)!
It's a great V-day story. Thanks for sharing it!
But, how's your foot?
Wow, how incredible of him to beat the odds back then! These days it's about 50/50 but still effing scary.
I'm glad everything is going well!
