Introduction and anxiety

Hi, ladies. My name is Emily. I live in North Florida with my husband of almost 4 years. We have decided we are ready (well, as ready as you can be) to start trying to conceive. I finished my last birth control pack last week and we plan to start actively trying after getting more used to 2 or 3 post-pill cycles.

I look forward to following your progress and learning more about where you are in your journey.

I would be particularly interested in linking up with women who suffer from anxiety or OCD. I have been on Zoloft (50mg) and Buspar (20mg) daily for about two years now and am particularly scared about the possibility of needing to go off of these. I have an appointment with my OB next Thursday to discuss.

Thanks for reading :)

Welcome and good luck! I suffer from anxiety, have the last 9 years. I have been prescribed BuSpar, but haven't yet filled the prescription. My Dr knows i'm ttc and it was one of the friendlier drugs. I just don't like to take medication unless my anxiety is peaking.

Edit: stupid Swype

Thank you for sharing - I will be curious to see what the OB thinks next week. I know different doctors have varying strong opinions about meds and pregnancy. It's hard - on one hand, I know I will obsess about the possibility of harming a baby with the meds, but on the other hand, I know I will obsess about...everything else...if I opt not to take them. I also get very bad digestive (i.e. IBS) issues from anxiety and wonder how much worse they'd be off meds.

On another note, Buspar worked really well for my anxiety, should you decide to take it. :)

Welcome and good luck with TTC. Along with talking to your OB, I suggest talking with your pharmacist. They may be able to offer other suggestions to bounce off your OB of medications that would be safe to use "off label" (as in, they're not normally prescribed/weren't created for that, but help with it, such as wellbutrin for smoking, metformin for pcos, etc).

You'll have to make yourself heard as well. Do some research before going in. weigh the pros and cons. It might be more beneficial to have you on neds depending how bad it gets if you're off. I lurk in the trimester boards and there are quite a few ladies on meds for anxiety. I'm pretty lucky that I seem to go through anxiety phases. Right now my anxiety is Low, even though I had an episode a few Saturdays ago. If they started coming more and more as they did earlier in the year and the last two years, I'd go back on meds.

I've been on buspar before and as soon as we decided ttc, I did a lot of research on it. Which is why we changed my prescription to it from celexa which is class c I believe

Welcome! Sorry I don't have any input on the meds. PPs have good advice. I've experienced some anxiety/depression, but I haven't taken any medication for it in a couple of years. Hopefully you get some answers soon!

Welcome and good luck! I don't have anxiety, but I do have chronic pain and went through medication changes in preparation for TTC. My recommendation is to familiarize yourself with the different pregnancy drug classes and discuss with your partner what you're willing to take while TTC, while pregnant, while breast feeding, etc.

I have a friend who is on a slew of medications for depression and anxiety and she has talked with her psychiatrist about changing her meds when it comes time to TTC. There are some she will have to quit, some she can keep, and potential replacements. The transition will also take some time.

Your prescribing doctor is a good resource in addition to your ob/gyn. They deal with this situation a lot.
