I am SOOOOO sick :( Advice?

I started feeling a sore throat on Saturday.  Yesterday it was hard to breathe, and today I am full force nasal drip, sore body, headache, cough, flim, temperature, etc. Unfortunately, I am a stay at home mom with no help until after 6 pm.  So, baby is completely exposed to my illness.

So far he appears to be fine, but is there anything I can do to lessen his symptoms if/when he gets them?

Thanks!!!

Are you breastfeeding? If so, my understanding is that your LO is getting antibodies from you already! Just do an extra good job of washing your hands before you touch him, cover you mouth etc. Definitely only so much you can do. Hope you feel better soon!

Yes, I am breastfeeding.  I hope he doesn't get sick, but I would guess with as much constant contact as we have, that is unlikely :(  I have been trying to limit facial contact and have been using antibacterial liquid on my hands frequently.  Of course, if he gets sick I will get him to the doctor during open hours.  Just hoping to get some advice if he starts over night or after hours.

My LC said often times breast fed babies are the only ones in the house who don't get sick.  She said if they do its usually more mild than your case b/c of your antibodies in the milk. If u r FF I would be a lot more concerned.

My husband and 2.5 year old had a nasty cold for an entire week right after DS was born. I was sure we'd both get it---we both made it through completely unscathed. There's definitely hope, don't worry!

Just wanted to chime in and let other FF moms know that a formula-fed baby won't necessarily get sick either! When I went back to work, DH took two weeks off to take care of DD. Unfortunately, he came down with a really nasty cold right before his time off with her, and it lasted for the entire two weeks that he was her primary caregiver.

I had stopped BF several weeks before, so DD was being entirely formula fed (she was never EBF due to low supply), and she never got sick. DH just made sure to wash his hands very frequently and limit his contact with her face. He also slept in the guest room (LO is in our room), because he was coughing really badly at night.

Anyway, just wanted to put that out there, since I know I felt (and still feel) really guilty about not breastfeeding, and seeing stuff like this would always make me feel worse.

To the OP: good luck! It sounds like you're doing everything you can, so hopefully your LO won't get sick!

I've heard this too. Your LO is protected from your BM because as soon as you started getting sick, your body started producing antibodies. Those antibodies actually helped prevent your LO getting sick. Since you're BFing, I wouldn't worry about it, chances are he might not even get sick.

Sorry you feel that way. I didn't mean my post as FF babies will get sick, just that I know BF babies get the antibodies from the sickness that their mom has. I don't know anything about FF babies because I don't FF. But I just wanted to say that you're feeding your baby and that's the important thing! As long as your baby is fed, you shouldn't feel guilty Smile

Jaysus you guys make it seem like BM is as freaking cure for cancer. She certainly should worry about it and take all necessary precautions.
