Tongue Tie

Anyone's LO have tongue tie and have it clipped? We just had this done today (I think I was as upset as my poor baby was...it was not easy to watch and hear her scream!!!!) Just wondering what the recovery was like. Did you see an immediate improvement in your LO's ability to nurse? She's been REALLY fussy this afternoon; I'm guessing it's because they clipped skin in her mouth. Did you notice pain after the first day, or was it an easy recovery?

My LO's tongue tie (he had a posterior tongue tie) was clipped at 2 weeks old. His recovery was great--he didn't seem to notice anything after the initial crying. As for latching/nursing, it wasn't immediately pain free but my nipples DID immediately maintain a normal shape during nursing (no more lipstick nipple). The pain gradually improved over the next week. I still have pain during latching/nursing, but I think that is due to his latch not being deep enough.

I'm noticing that I still have slight lipstick nipple...not as bad as before, but it's not completely round. Not sure if this will get better or not, or what it means. I'm going to make another appt with the LC after a few days to follow up with her.

My LO had it clipped in the office. Other than the initial screaming, he recovered beautifully. Gave him a bottle within minutes and breastfeeding an hour later. Nursing significantly improved (almost immediately). I still have some nipple discomfort with and without nursing but that too is gradually getting better. The procedure was done 4 wks ago. Best of luck to u, it will keep getting better.

did you notice that your LO was more efficient both in time to nurse and in how much milk fed?

We have appt next week for this, hoping it solves our time and milk issues soon after, pumping to suppliment is exhausting!

We had DDs clipped at one week and then again at 7 weeks due to reattachment.  It was definitely much more painful for her the second time around. I noticed immediate improvement in nursing both times, but I could tell it was reattaching because I was starting to blister and experience pain while nursing. The second time it took her 4-5 days to get back to her normal happy self.

Hmm I can't really say there was an improvement in his time/efficiency, because he never had an issue removing milk from my breast (gained weight with no issue). The main problem was that I was in pain.

I agree. I've been solely pumping for the last week and a half, and I was over it! My LO was immediately able to nurse, within 5 minutes of the procedure they had me put her on. Before, she was taking about 30-40 minutes on each breast and was still hungry. Since yesterday she's been about 15-20 on each side. I'm going to go in tomorrow to do a weighed feeding to see what she's getting. Crossing my fingers we have a HUGE increase. Before she got approx 20 ml in 15 minutes! Poor thing was starving!
