Carseat... again

I have 2 BMW's. One is a smaller sedan 328, and th other is the x5. We are looking for convertible seats that will allow us to sit back somewhat. With the infant seat we have we are pushed VERY far up. I'm not too worried about DD growing out of it because we have another one on the way and assume the second baby will use this one if DD outgrows it quickly. Any thoughts?

If you have a BuyBuyBaby near you I would go in and ask. You can also try the seats in your car to make sure they fit.

Most convertibles will take up less space than an infant seat. The smallest convertible would be the Combi Coccoro. It's a great little seat and nice to travel with too. I have a Coccoro in a Honda fit and a Mini Cooper and I can sit in front of it in both cars. I recommend going to a store and trying a few different seats in the smaller car. You might be surprised at what will fit comfortably. Britax is a brand that lots of people really like and they install easily as well.

How long do you plan to RF your child? And is your child tall/short and longer torso or longer legs? These are all important considerations in choosing a carseat as a taller, longer-torsoed child will outgrow certain seats RF before they turn 2 (the bare minimum age to turn forward facing). But, once a child is 6 or so months old and sitting upright unassisted you no longer need the 45* angle that a newborn uses. Installing the carseat more upright means that even a bigger convertible seat will fit more comfortably than infant seats do.

Now that diono has released the angle adjuster for their radian seat that made that one fit very comfortably in many cars. The combi cocorro is the smallest convertible on the market and I believe Britax convertibles take less room than some others. However, neither of my children would have been able to RF until 2 in the britax or combi seats because they hit the height limits long before 2 (and both outgrew britax convertibles for forward facing height before they turned 3)

We have a Diono RXT with angle adjuster in our 328xi and we can put the seat in front of it in a comfortable position without it touching.

Ditto penguingrrl, similar experiences!! Oh, and Radian rf occasionally in a Mini, angle adjuster used. Sticking the Snugride 35 in there was more of a b!tch.

My DH has a 328xi (2009) and we hase a Safety 1st Guide 65 that fits very well rear facing in his car. I probably should get pics it fits so well. :) In fact it we were able to put the passenger seat all the way back with it RF for a 22 pounder. This seat actually will let you RF until 40 lbs which is nice.

The other seat we looked at was the Maxi-Cosi Priori which fits well in smaller cars as well & got good reviews for a 3 series.

FWIW....DH & I both have convertibles in our cars.  We thought it was a PITA to try to use just one between both cars and make sure it was properly installed each time.  I would look at getting 2 affordable seats with good reviews and have them inspected by a pro after you install them. That way you know you're good.
