Target Registry

Several friends have warned me not to register at Target because their return policy is so bad. Have you experienced this?

Thanks!

I've never had any problems returning things to Target, even without a receipt, though they do what most places do and give you store credit for the current selling price if you don't have a receipt. But none of my returns there have ever been questioned, and I've definitely made some questionable returns!

I had a much better experience with their baby registry than there wedding. I didn't have any issue with returns to Target but my friends were good with giving my registry number when they checked out. Even if I didn't have a receipt, all they had me do was print my registry to show it was on there and I received credit.

I wasn't able to return a couple items and yes it did irritate me. I also don't like the fact that a large percent of items that I wanted are online only.

That being said it was the only brick and mortar store around me to register at. BBB has recently opened near me and I would've rather regestered there. So my advice if you have a BBB available, register there. If not then do target.

They changed their return policy a few years ago and I haven't had any problems since. Yes a lot of things are online only but you can return them to the store without a problem.

I didn't register there because of their bad reputation on returns and also because their in-store selection is honestly crap. Their baby section is teeny tiny; most is only available online.

If you don't have a receipt, they have a $70 return limit per year. I think target is annoying because if you register there, a lot of people want be able to run into the store to buy it, and majority of their stuff is only online.  They have such a small selection compared to BBB , babies r us, amazon, ect.

I LOVE Target but even I avoided it for the baby registry after all the issues we had with our wedding registry.  Their return policy sucks if someone buys you something, even if it's off your registry and they don't give you a receipt you can only return up to I think 75.00 worth of stuff in a calender year for store credit.  They also give you the lowest price ever on that item.  But to be honest, BRU was just as bad.....

I registered at Target and I had a great experience. I do not have a BRU or BBB near me so it was Target or Walmart and our Target has a great baby section (bigger than others I have seen). We did receive some duplicate items as a couple of our friends shopped on the same day and bought the same items off our registry (they even bought the same gift bags so they must think alike!). When i went to return them I had a gift receipt so it was no issue and I got store credit.

However we did get other duplicates and items we didn't want that we didn't have gift receipts for, so all i had to do was print a gift log from the registry machine and they returned it and gave me store credit. As long as it is listed as purchased on the gift log it doesn't count against that yearly max of $70 per person. I even got a bouncer that wasn't on my registry (i already had one so i didnt need it) so i added it, marked it as purchased and then went and returned it the next day using the purchase log without any issues. Their registry return policy is listed and it is clear, if it is on your purchase log you can get store credit without it counting against that $70 max/per person.

I've heard horror stories about Target registries as well. We registered there for our wedding and baby now though and I've never had any problems! The past few weeks I've returned at least 4 things that I didn't have receipts for and nobody every blinked an eye!

I liked it. I don't regularly go to bru but I do regularly go to target so it was less of a pita for me, personally.

This is not true for registry items though.  If your item is marked purchased on your registry, then you can return the item and it doesn't count against the $70 limit.

We registered at Target and didn't have a problem returning items, and we returned a lot. The biggest problem we had was getting duplicates and triplicates of some items becuase they weren't taken off the registry. Even without gift receipts I was able to return everything that we received and didn't want. It was the only place we registered so I don't have any advice on where else to try.

I registered at Target for my wedding and first baby, I had no problems with returns. I also registered at BRU. both places were a PITA about online v. in store items. I did most registering online so I could read reviews and such but ended up having to go to both stores to completely revamp the list since a lot of things were online only.
