BM dresses

I am a bridesmaid in a friends wedding at the end of June. I have to be measured by Christmas. My question is ... should I size up becuase i hopefully will be KU by then? The dress is super flowy in the midsection so I might not have to. I don't know though.

When we first started trying it took 9 months so this may be wishful thinking.

Thanks!

So I have this problem too, I'm in my SIL's wedding at the beginning of June.  I ordered one size bigger, it's an empire waist, so the lady said one size should be fine and can always be taken in.

Your dress looks a lot like the one I'm getting :)

That dress is beautiful! It is forgiving around the middle, if I were you I would order my regular size. Unless you're really tall you'll probably have to have some of the length taken up and you wouldn't do that until closer to the day, at which point you'll have a better idea of what size you will be. I think the extra length would give you some room for a pregnant belly without the dress winding up too short.

I think if I size normally I should be okay. I am totally putting the cart in front of the horse but even if we were to get KU our first cycle back from TTA (which is probably unlikely) I really wouldn't be that far along.

I'm thankful she picked the dress she did!

First of all, I love that dress! Secondly, I would order one or two sizes up. I had the same issue for a wedding that I'm in this May. The dress shop told me to order 2 sizes up just to be safe, so I did. Here I am, 6 months before the wedding and not KU. Thank goodness for alterations. Is the blue color the one you're getting or a different one?

That is some terrible advice. You are forgetting boob growth and rib expansion. Especially if the pregnancy occurs soon.

It is a million times easier to take a dress in that it is to try to let it out or add panels.

It's going to be in Blush. I adore that color. I am kind of pasty though so I'm going to have to get a good spray tan beforehand!

I agree with this.. my boobs were HUGE, like national geographic huge just weeks into my pregnancy with DS, your upper body just gets bigger with pregnancy. It will be alot easier to take it in than not be able to breathe in a tight dress all day if you are KU

Love it, hopefully it brings you good luck!  But I agree with those who say to go up a size or two.  Got to make sure you aren't spilling out of the top and will be able to breath.  But love the dress and it will look super cute with a baby bump.

Can you order a tall? I didn't see that option, so it may not be available for this designer.

Then if you are pregnant, you could then turn it into an empire waist. If not, then you would just have to hem it.

I am in a wedding in June too. They had me order 2 sizes up (mostly for room in the boobs). You can always take it in. I didn't want to be causing the bride stress when I didn't fit in my dress come June. If I am not KU, I will just have it taken in.

I also ordered a bit longer version of the one the other girls were getting and will take it up to match theirs. If I did have a bump, I might have had a mini skirt otherwise! But since yours is really long, I don't know that you will have that problem.

Better to have more fabric than not enough! Obviously within reason.

I would order one size up, not two. If you do get PG, you will have a bit of extra space to accomodate a bump. If not, there isn't too much to take in.

I'm going through that right now!  Luckily, the bride procrastinates so we are just now ordered the dresses for a March wedding.  I'm ordering my regular size, because it has a lace up back, which is really nice!  Plus, I wouldn't be that far along anyway.  But, if I were you, I would order a size up just in case.

I don't think you should size up, unless you do it just by one size or so, assuming you could alter it back down (I ended up doing that one year simply because I lost a lot of weight, and the alteration worked fine.)

While pregnancy does make you giant, it kind of only does it at the tail end of the pregnancy. If the wedding is in June and you are still not KU now, you probably won't even be that large in June anyway. If the dress is flowy in the midsection then you're probably ok. But see if you can hold off ordering it for another month.

ETA: as the other posters said, I forgot about rib/boob expansion because it wasn't really a factor for me when I was pregnant given that I have a small chest to begin with. So it depends on your body type. If you have normal proportions or are a bit top-heavy then you should realize that as soon as you are KU your boobs will expand further. So one size up could be necessary even in the first month or two of pregnancy. When I was pregnant all of my dresses and tops suddenly fit a lot better (until the belly finally came along around 5-6 months in).

I ordered my dress in August for a May wedding. Its even looser through the midsection than that and I still went up a size. Don't forget that its not just your waist that will get bigger, often your boobs will too. Plus, always easier to take in fabric than to make it a size bigger. At the time my mama said I shouldn't order more than two sizes up though because she felt it would make the dress too big to take in without completely rebuilding it. Maybe ask the saleswoman when you order or if you know someone who does alterations how easily thar dress can be altered.

I'm going to...hopefully...have the same issue. I'm in my friends September wedding and will hopefully be hugely pregnant since we're trying again in January. Luckily she's letting us pick our style of dress and just giving us color and fabric guidelines, which is what I did for my girls in my wedding.

Ill look for the flowy, empire waist kind. If someone else wants it ill just have to either throw down and fight for it, or let the bride know why and have her claim it as mine.

ETA: I'd size up at least just one size. It's easier to take in than let out.

I'd consider going up a size. Not for the belly but for your rib cage area. This doesn't happen for everyone, but I went from a 32 bra band to a 38 while I was pregnant, and I had jumped 32 to 36 by 7 weeks pregnant, long before I was in maternity pants or hiding a belly!!

Am I the only one who had trouble reading BM as bridesmaid?

For my wedding, there was a size mixup with my sister's dress and it was several sizes too big. There was no time to reorder so she had it taken in and it looked fine.

that dress is so nice! hopefully by Christmas you will be KU and have a better understanding, but if not I would probably go one size up, that way it gives you a little room, and I think it's easier to take in then to make it bigger!

I gotta agree with GM. I have been in two weddings pregnant and trust me, what you think may be a forgiving dress will most likely not be. BM dresses are not really made with pregnancy in mind. The first time I ordered one I was a couple months along and I ordered a size or two bigger and thought I would be fine. Fast forward to when it came in (which was only about 6 weeks later) and tried it on, I spent almost as much in alterations as I did for the dress. Second wedding I learned my lesson and ordered a much bigger dress and just some simple alterations were needed. So my advice is go quite a few sizes bigger and deal with taking it in rather than trying to let it out at the time of the wedding. Good luck.

Gorgeous dress!  I'm in a similar situation with a wedding in June.  My friend chose the JCrew Arabelle dress which is very similar.  Luckily my sisters wore it for my wedding so I can try it on since I'm not near a JCrew wedding shop.  I have 32E boobs and can't fit into the cups now!  I think I'll order 2 sizes up and get a new bodice if needed...  Find a great tailor early :)

I say order a size smaller, knowing that the fact that you'll barely fit in it on a good day means you'll definitely be knocked up when you have to wear it.  Right?  Right?!?

But seriously, I agree with the basic idea everyone is passing around:  order whatever size gets you a couple of extra inches in the boobies and a few more extra inches in the midsection.  That way, worse case scenario, the letting out would be minimal.
