Moving LO into the nursery...

My LO is 1 month old today (where did the time go???) and my DH thinks it's time to move him into his crib in the nursery. I'm not sure if me OR my baby are ready for this yet. He's a very active sleeper, so he often keeps us up at night between feedings. I get up with LO every night since DH has to work, but he's still complaining that he isnt getting good enough sleep. I'm still concerned about sids, choking, etc. When did you move your babies into their own room? Any advice on a smooth transition for both of us? TIA! :)

I have found both of my kids slept better once going to their cribs.   My first one was about a month and this one was last week, so one week.  Since you see very nervous about transitioning, maybe start with naps during the day in the crib? Or try it at night if you have a way to also sleep in there the first night, (air mattress etc)?  Our room is right next to the kids as well so even in their own room, they are close enough to hear.

We moved DS#1 into his own room at 5 weeks and he slept so much better (but he hated the bassinet and slept mostly in a swing or bouncy chair).  He started to sleep 5-6 hrs at a time starting on night #2.  I have yet to move DS#2 into the nursery.  He sleeps great in the bassinet and it is just easier for me to feed him and get back to sleep since he is right next to me.  I would say try the nursery, it may help him sleep more sound.  Good Luck!

I would tell DH to go sleep on the couch.  Mine does.  LOL.

But seriously, I am planning to transition at 3 months.  I want LO to get all the attention he needs and honestly I feel better with him close to me.  When I do move him into his own room, I will sleep in the room with him for a few nights just to ensure he & I both feel ok.

DS has been in his own room since day 2 at home. He moves and makes too much noise at night for me to sleep, and DH snores too loud for him to sleep.

We have a movement monitor (Angel Care).  It alerts you if there is no movement in the crib for 20 seconds.  Some people don't like them because they think the monitors are overly sensitive, but we have not had a problem.  If you follow the instructions and make sure the sensors are evenly spaced they work well.  We got one because LO was in the NICU for a while and had breathing issues and we were concerned about SIDS.  Without it, I don't think we would ever be able to sleep, we'd be so worried!  We have been extremely happy with it so far.

I'm glad you posted this as I am starting to think about moving LO into her nursery.  Amelia is two weeks old and does not seem to like the bassinet very much.  Therefore, we have had her mostly in her swing and she sleeps great...but that means I'm on the couch.  Today I decided to try her in her crib during her afternoon nap.  So far, she is sleeping great (although I am continuously looking at the monitor and going in her room to check on her).  I will probably continue to put her in there for naps over the next few days to see how she does. The main issue is me, I'm still not sure if I'm ready to be away from her during the night (or every three hours, which seems to be our feeding schedule right now, lol).

With DS1, we moved him to his crib at 1 month old. With DS2, we moved him at 3 weeks because I woke up with every noise made. Both slept better in their cribs.

DD is 8 weeks old and she is still in our room.  Honestly, I don't know when we are going to transition her into her crib in her own room.  DH and I are thinking we are going to keep her in our room for at least the first 6 months.  Even if we don't wait that long I am definitely not ready now.

My LO is almost 3 months and he is still in our room. My first initial goal was to have him in his crib at one month...it has changed several times and is currently at the four month mark. It's nice, and easy, having him in our room since I BF and don't even have to leave the room to feed him.

I am so worried about this my DH snores so loud that I find it hard to sleep, and now I find myself laying awake wondering how our LO is gonna be able to sleep. lol

I'm planning on moving him to his room by week three. Our first day home he napped in his crib in the nursery. Right now he sleeps in a travel crib in our room and does well. We always have our T.v. on (because I'm a light sleeper and we have cats that run around ALL night) and I think that noise helps him as well.

We'll see what happens though.

I moved my first child into his crib at 6 months when the recomendation is for lowest risk of SIDS (if you read most sites, they will say have the child sleep in a crib in your room for 1st 6 months).

I plan to do the same for my 2nd.

This is what makes us feel comfortable.  Different people are different and you should do whatever makes you comfortable.   I am told I am anal by my whole family (as I follow pretty much every single guideline including having my almost 3 year old rear facing still as he has not reached the height/weight limit.  Other peds say 2 is ok, mine says until they reach the max limit for the seat is best, so that is what I do).

In short-- do what you think is best:)
