Anyone heard of dancing at a baby shower?

My sister has offered to throw my husband and I a baby shower and she's having it at a community center. There's about 40-50 people coming. My family is Cuban and every shower that I've been to has food and dancing and is more like a party. But we don't know if this is normal for most. We're having a lot of "white" (american) people there so I don't want anyone to be uncomfortable. Just wondering if anyone has been to a shower with dancing or you would think its weird.

Im really not into the whole all women sit around in a circle and open presents kinda shower. It's just so awkward to me.

I never have been to one with dancing, but I think it would be more fun than the usual baby shower boredom. Do what feels right for you and your family.

No, I've never been.  If this is what you want to do, do it.  However, realize that people may still expect you to open gifts!  That's the tpoint of a shower and if you skip it, some people may be upset about it.

That sounds like a way more fun shower than I've ever been to! Dancing over stupid shower games? I'm in!  But, like PP said, I do think you should reconsider the not opening gifts idea. People generally expect to see their gift opened.  It's just the polite thing to do since they have taken the time to shop for you and come to your shower. Keep in mind that not everyone will be watching you.  At a shower as big as yours there will be some people sitting around and watching you open gifts but others will be socializing among themselves.  It won't be that awkward.

It's definitely not the norm that I've seen, but obviously traditional in your family and I think people will understand that right away. No need to worry. It sounds like so much fun! Like PPs said, though, I'd still open gifts at some point. Just don't dawdle so you can get back to the dancing. It doesn't have to be awkward.

My brother and sister-in-law danced at their babyshower and it didn't seem out of place or anything. Everyone took pictures of them and even a few guests danced. I agree to do what feels right to you.

I've never been to a shower with dancing but it sounds a fun. I think is fine if that is your tradition but I might try to spread the word about the shower will be like to your friends so they're more prepared for it. Some people will be disapointed about the fact that you aren't opening gifts.

I've never been to a shower with dancing.  Do you usually have a band or DJ?  I most likely wouldn't participate (my DH would NOT go to a shower even if it is co-ed...he went to two and said "never again!!!") but it sounds interesting.

I would also rethink the idea of not opening gifts.  If you refused to open the gift I gave you I just might take it home with me.  lol

That sounds like a fabulous idea! In my opinion, I dread going to baby showers. So long and sitting through all those presents being opened. Dance away!

My venue has a huge dance floor - I would dance, but it probably won't happen. I think it is a great idea - it isn't formal, like a wedding. Just a bunch of people having fun and celebrating!
